yea the shield mechanics in God of War are buttery smooth and extremely forgiving.

I think you're a Confessor, I went with the same class, good stuff, cloak is GOAT too, never took it off personally but it's a pretty bad idea to not upgrade your armour

If you want to gain access to other miracles like the one you get by default that makes your footsteps silent, you'll want to level up Faith, do that and you'll be able to use miracles that add temporary enhancements to your weapon, increase your defense etc

I think my faith rn is at 14 or 15. And yeah I think that is it. I gotta get used to the blocking too.

Honestly dodging is WAY more important than blocking here, parrying is cool, but you wanna master your dodge timing before you start getting into the deeper stuff, in Souls games (besides DS2, it's complicated), your rolling frames are 100% invincible

100000%, only game where it's better not to is DS2 (again, it's complicated, very weird game)

Only other fromsoftware games I’ve tried are a little bit of bloodborne and the demon souls remake. I like them but I’m just so trash. Elden Ring seems a bit easier since it’s open world. I love the designs of everything.

ER's so so good man, overall in terms of Souls games, the best advice I can give is that the battle ends when your opponent dies, not when you survive, sometimes you've really got to get in there and take a risk

Yeah RT dudes chase you for miles and that’s a slow enemy, I must add any dragon or fast footed creature will give you troubles from running away, hop on your trusty steed and get tf outta there. But don’t panic

IK it’s probably over mentioned but seriously invest in vigor. You will get good enough eventually to take on harder bosses but more health will allow you to do that.

Be on the lookout for a churches too. There is always an item in the front that lets you add more health flasks. And these small golden trees carry something that upgrades how much health your flask will recover by
