IM GOING TO F***ING KILL MYSELF. I JUST LOST 4 HOURS OF ELDEN RING PROGRESS BECAUSE MY POWER WENT OHT AND IT DIDNT SAVE. I BEAT GODFREY DURING THAT PERIOD AND MY MOTIVATION TO PLAY THIS GODFORSAKEN GAME IS ZERO NOW
The game constantly saves though. You should only have lost like a few minutes at most.
dunno if you played sekiro but that one is really straightforward
probably the most traditional story theyve told yet
nae
i saw so many people overwhelmed by the few factions and bit of lore from Dune and i was like
but this s*** is actually convoluted
been playing for an hour and a half and i feel like ive made zero progress this game is amazing

The thing about souls game way of story is that its for video games, as in games arent linear like movies n books.
Games do try to do linear story telling but thats why imo most of them retread the same ground or isnt surprising
Souls games make it to where everything is important in the game and contributes. Flavor text isnt just "flavor", its legit info. Npcs dont say abunch of nothing - it all has purpose within the world or what youre doing. The environment isnt just set dressing its actually telling hints n explains whats going on or what happened somewhere etc. Even enemy designs & their placement give insights.
Example: Npcs n quests dont have waypoints, so their dialogue has purpose & most the time they tell you exactly where theyre going or where you need to go in a natural way n why. Such as Blaidd, Blaidd says HES going to Caelid n to a tower, he doesnt specifically tell you to go, but if you want to find blaidd for the rest of the questline, literally go where he spoke of.
It makes full use of story telling in a video game unlike most games that try to just be an interactive movie with a lot of filler.

Yeah that's From's (or at least Miyazaki's) MO. It's awesome
Apparently when he was a kid he would piece together English books with what he could understand and he carried that style on with the games
Sekiro has a more straight forward but still From-y storytelling style with plenty of cryptic/hidden s*** you can find along the way

i could recite thousands of years of lore from LOTR, GOT, Metroid, Zelda etc etc but this is more like studying Torah or the Quran or some s***

idk if this will help but this is the idea behind it all
everything from item descriptions to npcs to environment to traditional cutscenes to even enemy designs tells the story

basically almost nothing is filler

yeah its a pumped up version of what metroid did as far as piecing story together from subtle clues in the overworld and achieving what it takes all the other mediums put together to pull off
still cant believe how dense the lore is sheesh man

i surmised this but its still too much for my smooth brain apparently. if i cant completely wrap my head around something i feel like i dont understand it at all sometimes
just gonna carry on enjoying the other elements

i totally feel this, but i promise if you just continue to immerse and lose yourself in the world you’ll def gain a lot of insight and understanding of the plot as you go
This a good starting video, gives you a starting point for the story and also kinda gives you an idea of how story telling in these games work with how a lot of information can be picked up by reading from item descriptions, the location you found the item, the enemy you looted the item from etc
!https://youtu.be/TvuWn6KsGikbrain went numb around the 8 minute mark of basically religious homework

I don’t have ps plus so it plays in offline mode so idk if that does anything

if you really wanna soak up all the story you can, make sure u read every single item description (press square/X when viewing it in inventory). honestly a good 90% of information and worldbuilding comes from those so it’s definitely worth it

I have been but I didn't find out what the Elden Ring even was till a minute ago so it didn't make much sense
