All Souls games require strategy,their more then just action games like a DMC. You have to take a lot of stuff into account before you go out and try to fight any boss. And this is especially true for Elden Ring cause I think this is their hardest game yet.

you can get a really good staff right next to where the game starts btw if you use this method:

It’s where the flowers is, you got defeat pumpkin head then you will speak to someone which sells magic

Waypoint ruins is the location I’m pretty sure
