this beat is hypnotizing and earl's voice seems alive and full of life. glad he's in a better place.
Yeah it’s more mature, but there’s a naivety and the last embers of Earl’s youthful rebellion combined with his first real loss and substantive life events that make it a standout
It’s like a journey looking back, while the 2015-2019 material represents an individual who’s already hopped off the proverbial train. But you are correct that in an overall thematic sense, those two do also execute far better. Doris still does have the makings of an OF album, where sometimes you’d do dope s*** that just doesn’t narratively progress anything.
Which is s*** I still like. I can still rock with an Uncle Al or Whoa, bc being able to rap well for rapping’s sake is what made this guy so intriguing nationally, IMO.
i see you, in the end its just a matter of taste and enjoyability / whatever parameters you use to rank albums, like impact, how hard was i enjoying it back then vs now, nostalgia etc.
Facts that him just rapping his ass off about random s*** while doing it so nonchalantly was a big part what made this kid so fascinating back then. looking back in time and seeing my younger self listening to EARL all day, anticipating his comeback from samoa and then retrospectively look at his evolution to where he's now (and where I'm now) is insane. how often i got surprised and hyped by even small things like him making a track with flying lotus, s*** was surreal to me cuz cosmogramma was my holy grail & introduced me into a whole new world of music.. time flies
Boring beat. Mf'er has Alchemist and Knxwledge on hand. Please
Well Alchemist is on the album so maybe just wait for the Al songs if you don’t like this one.
Also feet of clay is not as bad as people make it out to be. Some of my fave Earl tracks on there. MTOMB makes me feel a lot in such a short run time. I feel like East overshadowed the album, but for me, I grew up listening to those kinds songs in the household so it wasn’t jarring to me, but hahaha it is a very funny sample.
Post some of the s*** that sounds like East?

Pretty sure it’s Um Kalthoum for East
A lot of songs been sampled in hip hop from this era and style of music.

this the most famous one

This my favorite flip tho. From that to this.

yooo he's back
this is exactly what I wanted from him, straight bars rapped with energy. So refreshingt o see him smiling and seeming in a happier place too
I feel like Lucki may be involved but that’s just speculation
man I was about to say last night I bet it's Black Noi$e cause he's also prod for Lucki years ago actually

On relistens I’ve come to find East is fine plus he’s spitting crazy on there

The beat choice on East wasnt good, you can get used to it after relsitens but it's not a good beat especially with the flow he used. The lyrics are incredible though and is what can make it a good song after relisten.

My mums fav singer

Earl sounds so hungry, album gon be stupid
I gotta hear this once I leave the meetings I got today. Sounds like it's an earl without the mumbling type voice? I've been waiting for this, as I think musically that era should be moved on from now. I did enjoy that era though.
Niggas ITT acting like earl has missed
feet of clay is great
I only get better with time!
