Ah, well this explains everything lmao twitter.com/hyfrkem/status/1550980155505532929?s=21&t=f8EKuv2DXiR-uid7mpK0Ww
These ppl are just mad that they didn’t get what they were expecting 😭 this the same s*** the drake fans who only listen to rnb and hip hop were crying about when they got H,N 😭😭 fam get over it and move on, it’s ppl who like this kind of s*** like me go back and listen to the only two genres of music you like man😭😭
aSide note: definitely DO NOT cheat on your significant other. That is a s***ty thing to do to another person. Don’t let these dudes fool you, they’re lonely and sad af if this the type of s*** they’re on in real life
aint a bad song. I think the choir shouldve been replaced with a real gospel choir lol
The hook? I love that it feels like a group of men is singing it to justify their behavior
Sonically the song sounds pretty good. Calling it ass is way over the top

I have lived the toxic life before and has cheated on someone in the past. It is a traumatizing lifestyle to be in. There were a lot of layers of unhappiness with myself and it took hard work with multiple therapy sessions to see I had a problem and overcome them. There is a lot of pain associated so when artist like Future does toxic, you can feel that pain. No one portrays pain better in their music than him. So the music connects.
For dvsn to wear toxicity like a badge of honor is distasteful. Having lyrics on surface level of red pill youtube comments makes this song trash. There’s really no defending this tbh. People focus on how a song sounds more than what it’s saying. Lyrics still matter.
Dvsn starting a discussion and people having such strong feelings about the lyrics and song in general is a win for them. Seems like exactly what they were going for
R&B songs about cheating have literally existed since the 60s. so this song ain't sacrilegious. Ever heard of "Me and Mrs Jones", "Creep", "Secret Lovers" just to name a few.
I said it in that other thread, R&B at its core is toxic.
That's what makes this song cringe is these niggas thinking they was breaking new ground promoting this as some "new toxic anthem!" like bro Bobby Womack could write something better than this in his alcohol-riddled sleep bruh lmfao
Dvsn starting a discussion and people having such strong feelings about the lyrics and song in general is a win for them. Seems like exactly what they were going for
and that's sad that music as a whole has reached that point.
Cause this doesn't give me interest in listening to their new album

Starting a discussion does mean people are listening, all press ain’t good press. Let’s wait and see if it was worth it when the numbers come out
Anyone else thinking they going with a concept album and the tracklist is a chronology or journey of someone becoming a changed person? Iunno lmao
They know what they doing
s*** is too on the nose like there’s no actual story to the song even with the marketing they are trying to tell us that their song is toxic comparing it to prolific r&b records with depth and interviews surrounding a twitter topic
I’m still excited for their project but they really tried to manufacture controversy lmaoo
fr, they had a chance to turn the toxic talk on its head, could've went for something slick but still endearing. the rollout would've been genius if the song was good and not just average. sure there's much better on the album tho so I'm still in

They know what they doing
most likely. somebody posted about their disdain for the toxic R&B with like 1 retweet and DVSN was right there saying "it's only chapter ONE"

I watched a recap of the Twitter spaces session they did for the song and it was a really interesting discussion they had with people.

They've never been about numbers so this is the wrong thing to look out for. I don't care much for the song but they can only win with a move like this. I know this song has exposed them to a lot of people already. People who don't care for the song can check out their older stuff and become fans who check out their album when it drops and people who like the song will further anticipate their album. They win either way plus to be honest, it's not like they haven't tried the traditional R&B s***. They have. It hasn't gotten them to where they want to be so there's really no harm in trying to mix it up.
Also, it's not like this is their first toxic song. They've been making toxic songs since Sept. 5th. This just got a lot more promotion and that's why there are so many discussions around it.
Anyone else thinking they going with a concept album and the tracklist is a chronology or journey of someone becoming a changed person? Iunno lmao

All their singles I haven't liked have made more sense in the flow of the album. I trust that they know what they're doing.

Yup been this way since their second album for me
Eventhough I like this song a lot. Still one of their worst though

I don’t think he’s “wearing toxicity like a badge of honor”. I think he’s just exploring a common theme in hip hop, which is that being unfaithful is instinctual and natural and not a reflection of one’s love to another (I don’t believe that bullshit, btw lmao). This theme has been explored for decades in hip hop. I listened to all of the hip hop podcasts too within the past 5-7 years (JBP, RnM, old Brilliant Idiots, Rap Radar, Breakfast Club, etc.) and have followed a lot of the early 2010s and prominent “black twitter”/“hip hop twitter” twitter users and this theme has been beaten to death by all of them over the past decade. Even in the video, Daniel is introduced as “the faithful black man” and Mal as the “ain’t s*** best friend” lmao all that is straight up twitter s*** lol this song is in the same realm as that “it goes down in the dms” song (idr whose song that was). Im saying all this to say that I don’t think this is an effort to redpill anyone. This has been a recurring discussion in hip hop culture for awhile. I will concede that the rise of people like Kevin Samuels and Andrew Tate means that a song like this might be fodder for that trash community, but I don’t think that’s the proper lense to view the song and I feel like that’s an unfortunate coincidence (unless there’s proof that dvsn are actual right wingers then nvm I take all of this back). Lastly, for better or worse, I ignore lyrics most of the time. I am a melody guy. If I like the melody of a hook or verse, or any of the instruments being using in the production, 9 out of 10 times I will not even notice the lyrics until like the 20th listen lmao
I understand the purpose of the song from a marketing perspective but damn can they just get back in this bag please
