It's the little things for me like how the Fremen have a home advantage whenever their homeworld is going through an eclipse by the two moons, the Hand of God and the Muad'dib. They represent themes, they represent Paul but they also have a practical purpose because Leto mentioned in Part 1 that they jam satellite signals so for those short moments of twilight the enemies of the Fremen are cut off and don't know who is attacking them. It's also the times when Paul's "nightmares" are the strongest whenever he's resting.
I think it's one of those things you will enjoy rewatching the movies because of how knowing this rexontextualizes the scenes, the lighting and the way it will be dark one moment and then bright another and how the fortunes of the Fremen shift with the moon cycles, it's not a coincidence. I think Villeneuve is trying to convey that their fate is in the hands of the stars. This was Villeneuve's idea, even though Herbert mentioned moonlight, he never ever mentioned a single eclipse yet it fits so intuitively into this world that we accept it as canon and Villeneuve has shown with infrared Giedi Prime and rainy eerie Salusa Secundus that he really shines at this type of world building.
Let myself sit with this a couple days after seeing it. I’ll just briefly mention some things I didn’t like to get it out the way. Don’t like that Thufir Hawat was cut from the movie. Also I’m on the fence with the Spacing Guild being cut from the movie as well. I think the later has much bigger implications. Especially if he is indeed doing Messiah and hopefully Children of Dune.
I feel like cutting the Spacing Guild out simplifies part of the story a lil too much. It makes it seem like Paul’s enemies will be the other Great Houses as opposed to the Bene Gesserrit n Spacing Guild who were the other 2 major powers at the time. Makes me worried that we may not get the Bene Tlielax in Messiah. But I do have faith in Denis’ vision.
Also I parrot all the aesthetic criticisms as far as Fremen attire n their siech is concerned. It’s way too bland and dull. I was hoping for there to be some visual differences as far as attire between certain siechs but we ain’t go that deep.
Wilken as the emperor was an odd choice. I wasn’t mad at his performance, it didn’t particularly stand out either. He wouldn’t have been my pick as the Padisha Emperor.
Would’ve liked to have seen the actual Count Fenring too, maybe we’ll get him in Messiah. Since the Bene Gesserit alluded to more than once in the film that they had other prospects.
That’s mostly all criticisms of the movie, majority of it is just nitpicks tbh, only the lack of the Spacing Guild I feel like has far wider reaching consequences.
I’ll post about everything I loved later. I gotta work n it’s probably gonna be very long

very interesting
lmao
I felt like if Rey would have stabbed Palpatine in that moment we would have gotten the same water of life sequence Paul had seeing all the ancestors. Ben/Kylo understood that there was a narrow path where they could both rule and defy both sides and what an intriguing timeline that could have been because of the massive war that would have broken out. But, Disney decided to insult everybody's intelligence instead and play it safe.

don't get me started on the sequels again
but yes i agree jj is unoriginal and bland
so many cool things they could have tried but they just gave everyone what they thought they wanted
these dolby series things they do (for mostly WB releases lol) are super insightful man, could watch hours of this stuff

Had those exact thoughts after seeing it too. I read the first book again recently & had those expectations fresh in my mind before going into pt. 2, esp with Fenring/Thufir’s characters. some of the palace intrigue on Geidi Prime could’ve been padded out had those two been involved, wouldn’t have even minded if the runtime was longer for it
Frfr he came in that room and told all them niggas YALL P**** AND CANT NONE OF YALL DO S*** TO ME! The goosebumps was rising in me

we really been on the internet too long. Cause I thought about this exact scene being clipped and meme’d. Soon as he kissed the Baron back, and gave that look I was like “he serving c***”
i felt so ashamed
Chani being Kynes daughter serves a purpose because her lineage is significant to why Leto II is so powerful and why her tears were an antidote to the water of life. Unless Villeneuve has no plans to ever go that far into the story.
Space guild is significant because it's the whole point why they are fighting over spice to begin with. But maybe you are right and spice as a whole is just an afterthought in this version.
The movie ends with Chani and Paul going separate ways. It would be strange to do a time jump and suddenly they're back together.
I don't know. I guess I can see Villeneuve providing some closure but not without chopping up Dune Messiah and rearranging timelines the same way he did in Part 2 or leaving the story open ended which he probably has to for Warner to continue milking the franchise.
Paul has already foreseen that Chani will ultimately come back to his side. So her leaving imo doesn’t mean much. I think she’ll already be pregnant at the start of Dune Messiah tbfh. They was f***ing pretty regularly from how much time they spent together to me at least.
yeah I'm not trying spoil part 3 or children of dune but things like alia not killing the baron and chani not being kynes daughter maybe?
change plot threads massively
I’m willing to bed Denis will take that part of the books The Baron haunting Alia and transfer that plot point to Paul as a way to show him going down the evil/wrong path.
These meme can never die
Just realized that Dune is almost a billion dollar franchise. They only need to make like $50 million more until Part 1 and 2 box office will surpass a billion

I don't think he ever wants to even touch Children of Dune
has said his Trilogy would be Dune Part 1, Dune Part 2, Dune Messiah Part 3
said he'd be a producer and even laughed about how Children and later books would be harder to adapt
We need a dune video game so bad
