Finally saw this last night in imax but forgot anout thread
Honestly there were a few scenes that were truly denis magic but overall i felt like part one is still better
All i kept hearing about this movie was the action and the fight scenes but all the fight scenes were short af. That final battle between paul and feyd was laughable. Can't believe people were saying Butler gave a ledger joker like performance man that s*** was mid af.
Maybe i need a rewatch but idk i feel like the third act was so rushed it seemed like the focus should have been more on third act then the first act and half of the second act. No one really gave a crazy performance except for maybe Rebecca Ferguson
let it sit a few days, dune 2 delivered some of the goat movie moments ever.
the paul monologue to the fremen after he became eren jeagar, feyd's intro, stilghar glazing, the jesus shot, and so many goated moments in this movie. dont let the crowd make you into a contrarian, this s*** was amazing
He’s super locked in lol

He’s an EP. Was supposed to direct the first 2 episodes but had to pass due to his busy schedule
Movie of the year. Round 6 tomorrow.
visually it'd be much more compelling imo
and the fight scenes would be incredible
script might leave something to be desired though lmao
Would be hot trash just for you guys to say oh well they cut out all the good parts!
jus came back from my third watch in 70mm i think its a really fun and good movie, but i think ive come to the conclusion that the movie suffers from the exact things the first movie suffers from but on a bigger scale.
this movie suffers heavily from rushed sequencing and rushed plot development. still enjoyed it for what it accomplishes.
fear is the mind-killer

yeah 12 hour dune 1 movie would go hard

I try to answer my best reasoning
Narratively being Kynes daughter doesn’t serve much purpose beyond tying Paul more to Stilgar, since he’s Chani’s uncle, but Stilgar is already devoted to Paul as a prophet. That’s why genderbending Kynes didn’t matter too much imo.
Space guild is an afterthought. Paul controls the spice which controls the space guild. The houses not accepting Paul as emperor serves a better narrative purpose for the holy war/jihad, but definitely takes away some of the “bad guy” connotations for Paul. Also if I recall, some of the houses didn’t accept Paul anyways.
Chani in the movie is more explicitly there to tell the audience that Paul’s not a messiah and is manipulative/not a “good guy.” Paul already said she’ll “come around” so I’m not too stressed with her appearing to leave Paul. Alia’s story was mostly left out since they condensed the time but I don’t think the story suffers for it. Dune 3 will probably time skip and allow her to have a more physical role.
If dune 3 is basically messiah though I think a lot of people will be disappointed in the big time skip. He might dedicate the intro to showing the jihad but it’s really about the after effects, ruling as emperor and all the damn conspiracies and L’s stacking up. So I wonder if instead he’ll make some kind of bridge movie between end of dune 1 and beginning of dune messiah.
Chani being Kynes daughter serves a purpose because her lineage is significant to why Leto II is so powerful and why her tears were an antidote to the water of life. Unless Villeneuve has no plans to ever go that far into the story.
Space guild is significant because it's the whole point why they are fighting over spice to begin with. But maybe you are right and spice as a whole is just an afterthought in this version.
The movie ends with Chani and Paul going separate ways. It would be strange to do a time jump and suddenly they're back together.
I don't know. I guess I can see Villeneuve providing some closure but not without chopping up Dune Messiah and rearranging timelines the same way he did in Part 2 or leaving the story open ended which he probably has to for Warner to continue milking the franchise.

yeah I'm not trying spoil part 3 or children of dune but things like alia not killing the baron and chani not being kynes daughter maybe?
change plot threads massively

But, I also don't mind it. It leaves all of us guessing what happens next. I just can't see it ending at Part 3 and I hope they won't because Anya would be the perfect main character for the next trilogy.

exactly as a huge dune fan I'd love to see that, she'd be great and I do like seeing the changes cause obviously you gotta change things when you adapt something from book to film and yeah exactly keeps me guessing what will happen cause it's gonna be different than the books
