Largely because of reputation and timing. First film won several awards and the sequel was hurt by March release. If performances are great and WB does their magic they could do damage releasing in mid-December.

This year could be packed so who knows. Damon isn't really some lock either. Outside of Oppenheimer, no Nolan leads have been nominated for his films and I don't think there's any guarantee of a repeat of the awards success or noms. He also basically denounced campaigning for awards a couple months ago lol
