Thoughts on Drake acknowledging that he got the idea from DRAM?
    https://www.thefader.com/2015/10/20/drake-hotline-bling-cha-cha-interview

Drake spoke about the connection between the songs in the course of his interview with The FADER—though his comments haven’t been published until now. Responding to a question about a sunnier vibe to some of his summer output—he seems to acknowledge that “Hotline Bling” was based on “Cha Cha” and describes the song as a modern-rap equivalent to a dancehall artist recording their own spin on a hot riddim.

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that,” Drake said. “Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”

Getting an “idea” from someone is very different from completely copying and pasting. Lol…

I always said that this was the start of Drake moving weird when it came to hopping on waves. He did the same thing to Ramriddlz around this time too. Both of those niggas changed Drake more than anything lmao

    Honestly you right
A shame cuz Hotline Bling is a classic song and the Sweeterman “remix” is lowkey one of my favorite drake songs
But it marked him going full Hollywood

Idk, I just remember still seeing notifications long after I thought the thread would have died, so I read my comments again to see if they were really that outrageous, and I agree with my own points, but I genuinely cringed at how I worded all of them.
Of course it would have been better if I heard both songs first, but I maintain that my philosophy on what constitutes a “copy” and my previous experience and track record with supposed “copies” were enough to base an opinion on, especially since the opinion didn’t change even after I heard the songs
