generational impact of the nigga who's been dead but still generates a buzz regardless of what Rolling Stone and NYT keep churning out

This impact is beyond music. Of course buzz will generate when a beloved character is shown. That informed transcended an era where more of the veil is pulled back, so that will never be recreated

Strictly off the music, will they be playing Drake in 50 years? Probably. They'll still be playing Mike but for me personally the collective of songs I've gotten from Drake slap harder

Fair enough. I just can't put Billie Jean next to What's Next

I’m surprised Drake hasn’t had a #1 last longer than one week since In My Feelings.

I feel like I’ve been lied to about his hit making ability. He gets #1s off hype.

Love all the MJ songs, but it's quite funny how the music discussion and ''analysis'' is nowadays - most of his songs would've been slated as generic pop s*** by KTT if they dropped today

  • Dawg cmon lol

On May 25, 1991, Billboard made a change to the Billboard 200 Top Albums, when the magazine began using SoundScan data to tabulate the positions on the top albums chart. After decades of gathering numbers via a flawed honor system, the industry leader in deciding what was “popular” in popular music started employing accurate sales reports

Semi unrelated but album sales until the early 1990s were reported over the phone by store owners

And the conspiracy theories are about faking streams. The old numbers need to be audited lets be fr

I’ve been saying the charts were always bullshit

Son. Thriller, the single, never went number one.

The titular single from the biggest album in the history of music never went number one. Thats just another single for all intents and purposes in Michael Jackson’s discog. There will never be a bigger artist ever again lmfao

When they released the Music Video they purposely did not release the song as a single to get people to buy the album. Of course it worked. When they did release it as a single everyone and their mother already heard it on the album so there was no point to buy the single and it still went to 4.
