sure and with regards to the top 10, thats your opinion and thats totally fine, id agree in some specific cases. but did regulate by warran g run the charts for 15 years? did he break the beatles records with that song? did he almost match michael jackson with his albums? did he compete with one of the biggest pop artists in history for artist of the decade while releasing primarly rap and rnb?

Half of these accolades you're listing off are due to the streaming era. And that just goes back to what everybody else in here is telling you about this nigga just releasing whatever knowing that people are gonna eat it up lol

Which goes back to why we need to stop looking at rap through this pop star lens lol

Ruined is extreme. Making hip hop more Pop watered down the genre and allowed for superficial music to be at the top.

agreed 100%, how do we feel about countless other artists doing the same thing? maybe kendrick on bad blood, snoop dogg with katy perry, jayz with linkin park, etc etc etc the list goes on

(for the record i wish both kendrick and drake didnt resort to attacking characters during the beef)

Like That remix aged like fine wine

Success doesn't mean skill or greatness though lol

In 1994 the highest charting HIP HOP single was "Regulate" by Warren G .

Not only that.. Warren G had higher first week sales than Biggie, Nas, Method Man, Outkast, Gang Starr, Redman, UGK, MC Eiht, Scarface and Public Enemy.

No disrespect to him but nobody would put him on a top 10 list over ANY of those guys

debate aside this fact really f***in blew my mind when i discovered this @edumist

Using this as an argument in rap is so pointless and part of what has made the genre less art and more commodity

what optics am i not keeping up with? you said "making hip hop more pop watered down the genre" and i gave other examples of famous rappers "going pop" and asked how you feel about that

should rap be an underground thing only? that never takes off into the mainstream and is judged only by a small subset of peers not the global audience?
