he and other artists have benefited from these mega-corps working together, through payola, algorithm tweaks, and other questionable methods. But ultimately, this makes the corps more powerful and wealthy.

unfortunately for them, Drake has become too powerful. Few other artists have the financial security and influence needed to challenge such a corrupt industry.

we should all applaud his efforts to push for a fairer, more equitable industry for everyone, and not just the chosen few handpicked by the elites who control it.

I kinda wish he didn't do this because he doesn't come out of this with any real W regardless of what happens.

1. His relationship with UMG sours forever after this, that's for sure.
2. He'll forever he seen as a sore loser for not taking his L in the battle and moving on, regardless of whether or not UMG/Spotify tipped things in Kendrick's favor to spite him.
3. This will be a major talking point for the rest of the year and there's no way to defend this. He just looks like a sore loser.
4. How does he know UMG hasn't at one point or the other, deployed bots to help him out?

The whole thing is just a slippery slope. I wish he hadn't done this.

(1) documents and communications sufficient to show the dates, methods, and amounts of financial benefit, whether in the form or direct payment or reduced licensing fees, provided to Spotify by UMG/Interscope, its agents, or anyone working on its behalf in exchange for the promotion, publication, or recommendation of the Song on Spotify and

(2) documents and communications sufficient to show what Spotify agreed to provide and did provide in exchange for any such benefits.

"Drake has repeatedly sought to engage UMG in discussions to resolve the ongoing harm he has suffered as a result of UMG’s actions,” the petition reads. “UMG refused to engage in negotiations, and insisted that UMG is not responsible for its own actions.”

Instead, Drake says UMG has “pointed the finger” at Lamar and insisted that Drake should sue his rival rather than the label. He also claims that UMG told him that the label would sue Lamar if Drake ended up filing his own lawsuit."

UMG will never admit wrongdoing in this under any circumstance. If they do this opens up a million other possible legal vulnerabilities from other artists claiming similar things and this will span across all of the big labels. Not just Universal. Nicki Minaj publicly went on how many rants about Roc Nation and Atlantic conspiring against her, for example. These artists hear and see crazy s*** behind the scenes we'll never be privy to but no one is going to actually try and go against these mammoth companies legally.. It can't possibly all be baseless stuff. This s*** really happens.
