Seems like fans are using it as a shield & to prop up their favorites. “See! ____ had x amount of streams, I told you the album was good!” If you like it, you like it.
I think the thing with that is people WANT you to like an artist they like and there’s no real scale to determine an interest in someone’s music so they revert to sales and use the statement, “ it got X amount of streams and everyone but you is fw it, so you’re just a hater.” ,And it’s not even the case. The music just sucks to me. You can create statistics for ANYTHING to be in your favor and that is what the problem is because there are gullible people who will believe you and side with you all because you created a statistic that was in favor of your interests. It’s like polishing a turd.

Also, a lot of people are trying to live vicariously through their favorite artists & have made it their entire personality. So when you criticize their favorite, they take offense like you attacked them personally. That’s when I always see the stats come out. “All these people are listening, we can’t all be wrong” kind of thing.
