Sep 5, 2021i don't think the mediocrity of CLB is a mystery, the dude has obviously had intense writer's block for a while now that was only broken by how pissed he was at kanye. drake doesn't take his sweet ass time perfecting his music, when he's hungry he gets it out ASAP, while he spent a year basically saying nothing about CLB and being cagey about when he would finish it. he didn't seem inspired at all.
views had a similar thing going on, in that his heart obviously wasn't in rapping at the time, but he was still passionate about the R&B/pop/dancehall sounds and was able to create some great songs with them. in the case of CLB though, i don't think anything enthused him, he sounds uniformly bored no matter what sound he's going for.
