Drake is an oldhead rapper packaged as a new age rapper and Kendrick is the opposite. Everything about Drake underneath the surface is just a bunch of traditional rap superstar values:

    • Hits
    • Crossover appeal between rap and radio
    • Quotables
    • Dating the famous chicks we wanna f***
    • Being courtside at basketball games
    • Getting into high profile rap beefs
    • Being embraced by men and women equally
    • Carrying himself like a larger than life superstar
    • Bravado

This is why oldheads who hated drake were so conflicted when he came out. He was everything they hated on the surface (singing, making women music, being a pretty boy, being "pop", being a child star, not being black "enough") but he was also everything they loved - which is why they could s*** on him but also admire what he could do.

Kendrick is the traditional rap savior on the surface but underneath there's nothing traditional about him. He's the face of "new" rap as much as an Uzi or Carti.

As much I don't f*** with Drake nowadays. This is true, because you see a lot of old school heads who are heavy on the 90s and 2000's s*** were hating heavily earlier in his career. It took him three projects to get the respect from the older generation of rap fans, but even then, it did result in some of Drake's worst music afterwards.

Great observation I would include just like the new age Kendrick is very introverted.

Youre only sayin this cause kendrick is a recluse

  • Dec 28, 2019

If you hated new school rap back in 2010 then you hated Drake especially

If you hate new school rap today, then you appreciate Drake

Kendrick on the other hand, I can't say he embodies what a new age rapper, because in this age, there's nothing unique about this generation except for a couple people. Kendrick is in his own lane. He pretty much blends what his influences did years ago. He has the messages that Pac was speaking about when he was about to die. He has an unique ear like Andre, which results in his biggest projects between TPAB and GKMC, and lyrically he balances things out, he could give you a hint of Nas in some cases, a hint of Jay, it could be anything.

Kendrick is a recluse and introverted, but that's what makes him really unique even more is that he's very mysterious. He has that energy where you don't really know the dude, but once you know him, he's like that one friend across the street that you know and you have talks with.
