thegreatdivineI'm more curious on the exact number they can prove the supposed fake streams to be.
Drake has over 120B streams on Spotify. If all you can end up proving is that 1-3B of those streams have or had suspicious streaming activity, then this is much ado about nothing because that would prove:
1. Drake himself didn't engage in any suspicious activity to garner those streams.
2. Neither did UMG.
3. And very likely, neither did Spotify.That'd be a simple case of wiping off those streams from Drake's count (of which, he'd still very much be the most-streamed artist on Spotify). And if the supposed fake streams are even less than that? Say, less than 1B, then what are we even really doing here?
This is only really worth it if they can prove that a substantial amount (something around 25-40% of Drake's Spotify streams are fake).
And it seems article is just using Drake as an example but its more of a widespread issue with multiple mainstream artists.
If it is true, wiping the few (relatively) fake streams wouldn't really change much, if each artists streams are only less than 5% "fake".
But even then, Spotify themselves filter suspicous streams already for their charts (unfiltered number is on the artist profiles) and then Billboard further filters so I don't think there's much, if any they missed.One of them (I think Spotify) doesn't even count re-playing of a song on loop
