But i actually get what he’s saying. He’s saying this mindset of “everyone’s opinion is equally valid” makes people feel like they can talk about things they don’t know about, and still be as valid in doing so as someone who does have knowledge and experience to inform them
I’ve seen it up close first hand. It’s a disease and it’s kind of the mental equivalent to a participation trophy. A lot of young people really feel like “well all my thoughts are valid because I’m me and I’m special, so I don’t need to learn anything”
We’ve argued about this before, but you can also explore this in the reverse when you think about all the people who suppress their actual opinions because they want to align with an authority
At the end of the day, I believe music is a subjective experience
Everyone’s opinion is not equally valid to me
Nobody thinks that
But you should feel secure in your own opinion, while being open to the possibility of it changing
