Cole has been independent since 2014 FHD, that was his last label album

Cole is not independent wtf do y’all be talking about lmao

Cole is not independent wtf do y’all be talking about lmao

    idk

    anything to push a Narrative

All of his albums since FHD are Dreamville/Roc Nation/ Interscope with the exception of Might Delete Later, which is Cole World / Interscope, no Roc Nation support

it’s been a licensing deal since, so is it depends on how you view that but he owns all his music outright since and recently bought the rest back

Yeah you right about that, but that doesn’t make him independent either lmao

If you got a deal with a major label in any capacity you’re not an independent artist

True independent artists are people like Brent Faiyaz, Chance, Russ, etc.

  • Ngl umg push back on this is too good. Lawyers doing what lawyers do but this time in terms and situations I understand lol, this is just a solid ass dismissal argument

“Drake has been pleased to use UMG’s platform to promote tracks leveling similarly incendiary
attacks at Lamar, including, most significantly, that Lamar engaged in domestic abuse and that one
of Lamar’s business partners and managers is the true father of Lamar’s son. But now, after losing
the rap battle, Drake claims that “Not Like Us” is defamatory. It is not. While the Complaint
focuses almost entirely on “Not Like Us,” it disregards the other Drake and Lamar diss tracks that
surrounded “Not Like Us” as well as the conventions of the diss track genre, and, thus, critically
ignores the context of the dispute”

They cooked that bozo good lord

Just as someone who’s worked in very active proximity of law before, this is probably legitimately solely at the behest of whatever judge oversees it. This basically depends on the judge’s understanding of pop culture/media and interpretations of libel/etc in a much more direct way than most other cases like this

“Your honor he said to talk about him liking young girls” is about as dense as it gets related to this beef. That’s not a good defense. At all.

The fact that Drake brought it up BEFORE Kendrick ever did shows that it was a narrative in existence already and Kendrick didn't create it. How can you say a statement is false, defamatory and you're suffering damages because of it if you said the statement about yourself first?

Subjective belief that something is true is a defence to defamation. UMG can easily say "Kendrick Lamar was under the impression it's true, look at this, Drake even said it about himself"
