    This really is it

He goes into a battle with Kendrick they both put out ‘defamatory’ records except one connected in a huge way and…that’s it. There’s not some fairytale conspiracy going on

Drake the saw this as a convenient opportunity to try and get some money out of UMG as he was in the middle of contract negotiations with them and those talks weren’t going his way so he tried to put together a hail Mary hoping umg pays and settles.

I can’t imagine that there’s ANY proof that UMG was acting funnystyle with the boy over NLU. Does not pass the smell test at all

Drakes kinda dumb for engaging in this beef on a contract year, it’s like participating in the slam dunk contest/fiba when your headed into a contract year

Nah I can see his gameplan being, "Lemme handle this scuffle real quick then come back to the table with my value doubled." That went differently of course

Anyways, enough of giving my opinions. We'll see what the judge rules on.

    You’re opinions suck.

  • UMG stated that "Drake's true battle was, and is, with Kendrick."

However, even if Drake does have an issue with Kendrick, the reality of the situation is that he was approached and attacked by multiple artists simultaneously. Kendrick originally hopped on a song with Future and Metro Boomin after a long hiatus, but it wasn’t an isolated shot—Future and Metro’s entire album was littered with disses aimed at Drake, featuring a variety of different artists. This was then followed up by another album, which continued the attacks, despite Kendrick not appearing on that project.

Drake, as an artist, took offense not just to Kendrick but to the fact that several of his longtime contemporaries, close collaborators, and even people whose careers he had helped elevate had turned against him. No matter how much fans and the media wanted to frame this as a one-on-one battle between Drake and Kendrick, that was never truly the case. Kendrick did not attack Drake independently; he was part of a coordinated effort involving multiple figures in the industry.

That said, it’s natural for fans to focus on the biggest names in any rivalry. In basketball, no one is tuning in to watch the Charlotte Hornets take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Finals—they want to see the Celtics or Cavaliers go up against the best team in the west. In wrestling, everyone wanted to see The Rock versus Stone Cold Steve Austin, not a mid-card match. Entertainment thrives on the spectacle of two giants clashing, and in hip-hop, Drake and Kendrick are two of the biggest names. No matter how Drake himself viewed the situation, the public—and more importantly, UMG, a for-profit entity—wanted to frame this battle in a way that would generate the most attention and revenue.

This was arguably one of the most prolific moments in hip-hop history, and it came at a time when the genre’s cultural dominance was shrinking. The industry’s heavy hitters were aging, and younger artists were struggling to capture the same level of mainstream attention. This mirrors the NBA, where viewership has been declining due to the league’s failure to properly market younger talent. Just as LeBron, Steph, and KD have remained the main draws in basketball, Drake’s prolonged dominance has made him the face of hip-hop. This battle reinvigorated interest in the genre, generating massive engagement and giving UMG—and the industry as a whole—a much-needed boost.

While the fans and industry positioned this as the defining battle between Drake and Kendrick, Drake never saw it as just that. From his perspective, he was being attacked on all sides, and his responses reflected that. So saying his "true battle" was with Kendrick is not what it was, but how people wanted it to be

Cole has been independent since 2014 FHD, that was his last label album

    Nigga…no my guy lol

Might delete later was put out on interscope.

Technically, it was put out through his imprint and licensed by interscope but it was still ultimately put out and backed by interscope. That’s a literal fact.

    That’s not independent at all.

Go look at who put out Russ’s last album and you’ll see what independent actually looks like

yea he signed to Columbia for a 4 album deal (FNL, CW, BS, FHD), and after FNL, Jay-Z swooped in and did an early version of the Meg/Uzi/Meek s*** and signed Cole to a 3 album deal with Roc in order to get out of his deal quicker and in return after FHD and finishing the Jay deal and Columbia deal, been in a partnership with Interscope since

“Partnership” is just a colorful way of saying that he’s signed to interscope.
