"But I’d like to publicly say that I think universal music are criminals who actively take advantage of ALL of their artists in perpetuity for their own gain."
To this point, its not factually accurate about ALL artist's rights being perpetual.
Iggy had a lazy lawyer who did not negotiate her reversion rights correctly in her original recording agreement, hence her settlement. Other UMG artists with smaller advances have have reversion rights and aren't entitled to UMG in perpetuity, after full recoupment.
Is that a real quote?
Least serious court case ever lmfao
They're doubling down on this weak angle still
This s*** won't hold up because they're still trying to make this a case of Drake not being able to accept a loss in a rap battle when that has nothing to do with his lawsuit.
I'm curious to see Drake's lawyer's response to this lol.
documentcloud.org/documents/25589701-memo-for-umg-dismissal-motion
Full MtD complaint
Umg filing an official court doc basically saying "just take your L bruh" feels like they did this to get him clowned on twitter some more
Umg gotta be shooting themselves in the foot here it feels like
They are. Drake lost in a similarly embarrassing fashion to Pusha T and none of this ever happened so UMG saying he's suing because he can't take a loss is already the wrong route to take in their case for dismissal lmao.
Also, in Drake's lawsuit, he clearly stated that his grievance isn't towards Kendrick.
I think this s*** will blow up in UMG's face but we'll see.
Using the line from Successful
Yea UMG reaching
Pack it up, give the boy what he wants
Using the line from Successful
Also hilarious how they open up listing all of NLU's achievements and Grammy wins to act like it still doesn't contain any sort of defamatory material towards Drake and is just a random hit record lmao.
Do they really think the judge will be like "Yeah, should've just taken your L bruh."
It's the court of law, and these niggas are moving like it's Jerry Springer
Is UMG serious ?
They never had a solid defense against this s*** because they never imagined Drake would actually sue. That's why the only thing that can do is lazily double down with "he's just mad he lost a rap battle and that's why he's suing us." Definitely a choice when Drake's lawsuit fired off a myriad of other reasons why he's suing lol.
My guess is that the judge rules on it going to trial, if only to see what else Drake's side comes up with to make their case but we'll see.
UMG showing how much of a nothing burger this is
Just trolling Drake at this point
If this gets dismissed it’s gonna be a bad look for the nation of drizzlam
when does the judge decide on this motion to dismiss?
Do they really think the judge will be like "Yeah, should've just taken your L bruh."

These are the same people who told Drake he wouldn't dare sue them because "the culture" would clown him and his lawyers have already submitted 22-pages worth of correspondence between Drake and UMG MONTHS before the lawsuit was filed where UMG ignored and dismissed Drake's requests for them to meet up and come to some sort of resolution. It also allegedly contains proof of them telling him he wouldn't dare sue them because they're untouchable.
The birdbrains-turned-into-legal experts here haven’t read the full complaint and are focused on the dicta and surrounding persuasive language.
UMG has actual legal arguments, citing case law, that responds on the elements of defamation. Those arguments are what the court will actually consider when ruling on this motion.
Also, UMG’s two lawyers, from Sidley Austin, have a winning record in the 2nd circuit.
But I’ll let you cook
“Drake has been pleased to use UMG’s platform to promote tracks leveling similarly incendiary
attacks at Lamar, including, most significantly, that Lamar engaged in domestic abuse and that one
of Lamar’s business partners and managers is the true father of Lamar’s son. But now, after losing
the rap battle, Drake claims that “Not Like Us” is defamatory. It is not. While the Complaint
focuses almost entirely on “Not Like Us,” it disregards the other Drake and Lamar diss tracks that
surrounded “Not Like Us” as well as the conventions of the diss track genre, and, thus, critically
ignores the context of the dispute”

If he covered the Family Matters-sized hole, then it should be interesting

This is where they set themselves up. The very idea that Not Like Us isn't defamatory, is false. A better case would have been them suggesting that Drake also made defamatory remarks aimed at Kendrick lmao.
