It is but what Drake and Kendrick do is very different. Especially considering there’s some deeper subject matter to all of Kendrick’s songs.
I remember when Swimming Pools came out and it had success but it was a song about alcoholism. So it’s apples to oranges.

I love the snippet but I defo don’t think we shouldn’t judge CLB by a 1 min late night Insta snippet.
Based on LPF, Not Around, Need Me, etc., it’s clear Drake can still summon something special whenever he wants.

Yep. That’s why I said there is a clear bias.
People like to prop up conscious rap no matter how surface level or critic bait it could be.
And that’s not necessarily a dig at Kendrick, I get it. But it’s not right either.

Just like I don’t think Drake is a wave rider, I don’t think Jay-Z is a wave rider. Because again, if we’re gonna go down that route, everybody who decided to build off of what Sugar Hill Gang did was wave riding.
And who else was making dancehall at the time besides the actual artists in that genre? Drake took a risk making that music and he made the genre mainstream again. Before that, there was just instances of it during the 00’s and late 90’s IIRC.
