I’ve said numerous times ITT I’m not discrediting him at all and that would be silly because he did numbers pre-streaming.

It was literally the second post I made ITT

Instead of a congrats it's numerical breakdowns ITT

Based on your logic, Artist with millions of fans in the 80s, sold millions of units first week

Not really, no, not every person who was a fan of an artist either could afford to buy a new album or actively wanted to, radio was still big back then

Why you trying to discredit Drake when he sold 600k+ with NWTS pre streaming

Not to mention we pirated that s*** like another poster said 😂

Yeah I’m not saying Drake wouldn’t be s*** without streaming, that’s ridiculous.

    Two things can be true:

    1. Drake was already a certified hitmaker putting up huge numbers prior to streaming

And 2. Drake, along with other artists, have heavily benefited from the streaming system when it comes to various accolades and records that have been broken in recent years

We can't keep the rules that worked 30 years ago bro

I also didn't read the other paragraphs in this thread that wasn't a shot at you or anything

But damn it's like everyday lol

The rules definitely should be different than they were 30 years ago, but I think they need to be tweaked and modified the same way that certain physical-era rules were tweaked and modified

  • the pic in op looks like what id want the “drake needs to get on dogfood” music to sound like

Like you guys know Drake didn’t debut in 2018 right?
He comes from the era where you bought or pirated music and he was still incredibly successful back then

You still can't compare artists who had their debut from early 00s with Drake who had this debut at the end of the 00s and really blew up in the early 10s

man streaming is so easy man, every rapper is absolutely rinsing this new form of selling music s***s bullshit bring back physical era

count how many of your favourite rappers on this list of top-streamed artists btw

These are old numbers btw, Drake is at 88 million streams on Spotify now

thats just spotify to, if Apple Music numbers were public (where drake does his most streaming numbers), it would be absolutely tragic

Of course it would be tragic because AM would be nothing without Drake. 90% of the community there only streams Drake and 3-4 other rappers

Also AM isn't that big anyway

That’s all these people gotta say and keep it pushing. It’s extremely hard to do apparently.

  • Oct 26, 2023

    Good for him.

Drake and Rihanna are the biggest hitmakers this century.

Eminem and Kanye's single sales are pretty impressive to considering that their biggest songs blew up pre-streaming.

    b-b-b-b-but the streaming era!!!

meanwhile every rap artists is absolutely FLOPPING on streams

so what is it, are streams over inflated and every other rapper is just dog s*** and no one streams them or is drake simply the exception that you refuse to admit

never seen someone on top so consistently belittled for his achievements

even pre-streaming era from TML-Views.... he was running s*** off physical copies, no one was touching him either

TML: 450k (debut album btw, which of ur bum favourites selling 450k even in the "streaming era" off their first album
IYRTITL: 535k (5 days of tracking and surprise drop)
    Take Care: 631k
NWTS: 658k (was the most pirated file in the history of the internet, this is fax you can look it up, i pirated that s*** myself to back in the day
VIEWS: 852k (physical btw, it was 1.1mil with streams included cus this is when streaming just became a thing in 2016, also AM exclusive)

    let him cook

  • Vietbrah

Did you see this coming when SFG dropped?

    take care

It’s not solely because of Drake. Post Malone has 8 Diamond singles, the most ever. I think that sums up pretty well that the system is flawed

I don’t think this says the system is broken. It says Post Malone makes music that people enjoy listening to a lot or makes music that easily crossed over into multiple demographics and settings. If somebody wants to streaming your music enough times for it to go Diamond that’s no easy feat.

I just feel like it’s, not necessarily disingenuous but I’m having trouble finding a better term.

Like a Diamond record means that your song surpassed 10 million sales.

But with streaming, your song wasn’t actually sold 10 million times, it was just consumed consistently over the course of however many years, which is what’s always been the case since the beginning of the music industry, those additional listens just weren’t counted as new sales until streaming came around.

It’s definitely not an easy feat, but it’s kind of head scratching when you realize Post Malone has 8 Diamond records in 5-6 years and a song as universally known as Beat It by MJ never went Diamond

The song came out 40 years ago, obviously people are streaming it but nowhere near as many people who are gonna be streaming a brand new single/album from a modern day artist
