Hm I'm not sure the LIRR rules, I live in NJ and I believe it's legal on the NJ Transit (or at least I've done it and never gotten in trouble)

You could always put liquor in a soda/water bottle though depending on what you're sipping on. I've rolled with a water bottle full of vodka on the train before, or you could make like a really strong rum & coke
