Like do you find corporate >50 year old bosses to be really blunt/unaware of how they come across over DM messages like on Slack or Teams?
I have a director who leads our global team and he’s always ready to chew someone out over DMs but in person he comes across as much more reasonable and understanding
Do they just try to be tough to motivate people or is it unawareness of how they come across in digital communications?
I’m never sure whether this guy is actually pissed or not
Nah it’s definitely just unawareness of how their messaging is being perceived. I sympthize with the old people when it comes to digital messaging, I wouldn’t think too much about it. Especially If they’re cool in person.

Yea, even my grandma has accidently sent me texts where I'm like "who the f*** are you right now" lmao
Younger people try to incorporate their personality in their digital communication because it plays a bigger role in our lives, the older people lived so long without it that it’s strictly a straightforward communication tool and nothing else

Damn
My dad might send s*** like “you cam home.” When he’s trying to ask when I’m gonna make it to my parents house, but there’s a language barrier there as well

Yea it's like they view it as the same as an email or letter. Id assume most closer to our age havent written letters outside of like middle school assignments

Or old people too p**** to stand on business face to face but they’ll say some s*** from a distance.

Never met an old person who wouldn’t say s*** to your face that they’d say on the iphone. Met numerous younger people who act that exact way however
My old coworker was like that, always came across as a b**** on the chat but was truly the sweetest person ever. GOAT coworker, but these oldheads can’t communicate online like that
Idk what slack is but my boss is a lil younger (looks way older) and he loves me because i was here before him and work hard but he’s rude to everyone else

Yup. Sometimes even to me it's tiring to try and make people feel "unoffended" over texts. Like damn lemme just get the message across pls.
I'll spend a bunch of extra time over thinking what to put in a email or other message just because I don't wanna sound cold
