This is her sixth studio album and she was basically a one hit wonder from a decade ago going into it

Literally nobody was expecting her to truly have some smash moment at this point in her career.

With that being said, she had a cultivated fanbase and fit a niche and has been acclaimed. So ofcourse the mindset would be still planning and executing a well intentioned album that was well received.
