I was only 10 years old when he died so I didn’t really see and understand the whole “media slander” he went through in the early 2000’s. I had been hearing and enjoying his music ever since I was really young but that’s pretty much it.
Whoever was old enough to witness and actually understand that era of MJ from 2000-2009, what was it like? I’m really curious about what people thought of him at the time, especially during the 2005 trial, his isolation in the Middle East and leading up to This Is It.
Ppl referred to him as wacko Jacko
He was getting clowned on every comedy cartoon (South Park, Simpsons, vh1 I’ll-ustrated, family guy etc) comedy standup, comedy shows like mad tv, movie spoofs like scary movy etc

Media like tmz and e news as well as the tabloids were stalking his every move and he was in the news every other day for something wacky
Not sure if you ever played the gta clone true crime streets of la, one of the random crimes to solve involved “taking down Miguel jacko the Botox FREAK”.
And of course Eminem

“Still” on top? He wasn’t on top when he died. He still had a loyal following and could do legacy shows and tours because he was a living legend musically but we can’t revisionist history out how big the pedophile allegations were. You can argue whether they were justified or not but you can’t deny their existence. He wasn’t on top anymore before he died in large part because of that stain on his name and also just because he was older and not as active musically anymore. Living longer wasn’t going to make him younger (duh) and he was always going to have those allegations tied to his name.
