human mind hyper focuses on the negatives so I’m sure every gen thought they gen sucked majority of the time

Until they get older then they blinded by nostalgia & think they had the best

The “I don’t want to bring kids into this f***ed up world” is so dumb lol. I get it if people don’t want kids, but there are very few times throughout history in which it was better for a kid to be born and have a secure childhood than now.

They do not want to have kids, but they lack a specific motivation. They are simply ambivalent on the matter. First, I’ll take a quick detour to say that is quite likely that across time and space, many people have felt this ambivalence but have had children regardless. The reason is that people in traditional societies have a need for children which people in post-industrial societies do not (food production and elderly care stand out) and that people lacked easy and reliable birth control. Today, people who lack both the need and desire feel the need to justify not having children (perhaps because it was so ubiquitous even within living memory?), and this catastrophizing narrative is what has apparently emerged as the consensus morally sound, intelligent, socially acceptable reason. This doesn’t apply to everyone who doesn’t want to have children (of course, there are people who are not just ambivalent, but actively against having kids - I find that they tend to have more authentic, specific reasoning), so suffice it to say that I am skeptical of people who say they do not want children because of climate change. Also, I do not intend this to be a natalist screed, I just think this line of reasoning - which is, of course, in fact a post facto justification - is not authentic, yet neither do I think the people who use this reasoning are actively lying.

All that being said, even if we accept that everyone who says this is being authentic, it is still a relatively novel attitude due to the aforementioned need for children for most people living in traditional societies.

Maybe the Mayans didn't mean the world would literally end in 2012, maybe they meant 2012 would be the beginning of the end, the begining of the decline of society

I hate the thing about not wanting to raise kids in this current environment. So many people bring this up and I man I hate it

Look at 150 years ago how people were living. Everyone was extremely poor

My parents generation bought HOUSES with a labor work salary after like 2 years of saving. On 3k a month salary raised a family of 4 with no english. I made almost 3 times that and I gotta live in a box condo in the sky.

F***ing frustrates me bro. And my salary is from 2 sources of income too. Most people max make like 5 or 6k in Toronto and that's if they have a proper career. It's a joke.now

    It's objectively worse.
5 or 6k after tax is like 4.5k or less. One Bedroom rent is f***ing $2800. Fried.
