I think your over estimating how many people voted for biden off that issue
If you can give me some numbers id believe you
It was disappointing to see all of these candidates claim to be progressive imaginative individuals and then all drop out and endorse biden, smearing the superior candidate, but unfortunately our country is too centrist and conservative to get anywhere without a fuss
public option, reforming gun laws, reforming marijuana laws, reforming the tax code (already reneged on in order to compromise with republicans lmao) etc., etc.,
none of them are happening.
as a southern black man who volunteered for bernie. The lady who hosted the phone back was old and black. Its more like a lot of old black people loved obama and the IDEA of Kamala so they voted for Biden.
representation is important and serves its own purpose but should be met with progressive ideals simultaneously imo

This
My granny worked at GM her entire life and yeah she was union
I even showed her bernie marching with MLk but she just wasnt with it
I dont understand it
I think political marketing machines did a number on the older generations, I think if they were met with things like
-the cost of rent going up with the minimum wage staying the same
-the fact that minimum wage jobs aren't just worked by teenagers in high school anymore or some s***, but plenty of adults where that's all they could get, everybody seems to have a college degree now and can't even get a living wage job

Facts. I have hope that this is the generation that can make the changes needed we just need a figurehead like AOC to rally around and get on office
it’s an oligarchy/aristocracy
a candidate can’t run a campaign & get enough votes to win without spending billions of dollars
it’s not a democracy
Is there any country that is a democracy?
If the need to appeal to some influential group is the only way to have your message be spread out, is it even possible for “true” democracy to exist outside the local level

i like her and realistically the US isn't going to put someone more progressive than her in office
I don't even think she would get elected until we get rid of this red scare 3.0 bullshit going on and talk about labor rights, healthcare rights all these things are human life and essential to quality of life, that should be at the forefront like every single person gotta get on this wave
that's what i appreciate about bernie is he breaks it down for everyone, simply,
sometimes it doesn't seem so rhetorically pleasing because it's repetitive but at least he's not trying to play all sides and sticking to what he believes in, the reason is cause he got it right

I agree entirely

Any country with easier access to voting for every citizen, more representative choices and better conditions for all of the people is more democratic by comparison imo
So I mean fill in the blank.
I'm not saying any of those countries are an end-goal but they're doing better than U.S. on a myriad of levels.
And even though I'm not the person u quoted I'd say no to your last question, and that's one of the big issues is people shouldn't have to appeal to an oligarchic government to help them, and it really feels like thats what happens often
Additionally, political systems are pretty abstract and are thought to preside over populations of millions or billions of people so "democracy" alone shouldn't be all encompassing but rather a descriptive word to explain when people have a say in whats going on, at it's core.
A lot of s*** people called democracy in the past was just to cloak imperialism and power over other states in the world
There's calculated attempts in congress to make voting harder for people who might be disadvantaged by not being able to get off of work or get transportation to the polls, so thats one thing that puts a strain on what should be democracy,
then, we have a two party system that doesn't allow for progressive ideas and picks the middle of the road everytime, they're not as different as their members would like to believe,
Also the hypocrisy behind claiming to be a democracy while invading other countries or staging coups in places that may not even be violent or in need of military assistance in that way,
U can't claim to be pro-self-determination and democracy and then as soon as a government wants to approach something like socialism or otherwise you violently attack them so it doesn't even get a chance to evolve and grow
Missed this post my bad

Even in those countries, the core issue still remains that federal candidates campaigns are mostly funded by the wealthy.
Then when we get to Nordic countries where most campaign finances are public, the problem is that means candidates are required to join already existing parties in order to actually do anything/most of which have an established policy line
Even in socialist states this problem is exists in that the only way to move up is by already conforming to existing party lines.
Those that try to deviate it once they get in in all three cases are outmaneuvered out of power after the fact
it does change when considering that the courts themselves as well as voting districts are used to suppress votes from specific demographics of voters that might not vote conservative
voting is not as simple as "if you just vote itll count"
while technically true, theres also more complexity to the issue that dictates how much your vote counts (and maybe even IF itll count, as seen with the conservative push for voters to have identification)
This is all true
i believe in it, and believing in it means accepting that this country is nowhere near the potential it can reach in properly representing its citizens
it’s an oligarchy/aristocracy
a candidate can’t run a campaign & get enough votes to win without spending billions of dollars
it’s not a democracy
this is anywhere. that doesn't make it not a democracy by definition
whats there to explain lol? in capitalist society, the rich and the policy have democracy, the rest of us just go along at their whims
this just isnt true lmao.

i thought u were pro-gun?
none of those are happening because we have a representative democracy and a constitutional republic.
we dont do a popular vofe for laws

what change do you want to see in usa?
Needs soms euros input
Yes I do.
Netherlands.
This year we have gotten the most political parties ever. We currently got 19 different political parties in our parliament.
I love that because it means every specific group is getting a voice. Even thought the voice can be very small just by being there they are making a noticable difference already. So many people here got someone they genuinely like and sometimes even love in the parliament.
So yes, with the right government democracy exists. I do believe some countries are “democracies” but not in the right way, like a lot have said the USA. I see so many people vote every election for the “lesser of two evils”, because they got no other choice. That’s not a great democracy. Not sure if it can be labeled as a democracy at all.

Thats awesome
I would love to have more parties in this country

we would have to change how we run and how we vote for our entire legislative and executive branch.
its just not feasible.

Change is never easy, but it is necessary. Everything is possible if they cared enough.
