the closest I think Drake got to being “innovative” was the underwater “toronto sound” style production off Take Care and various other tracks released after.
but even then, thats moreso to the credit of Noah 40
I was also gonna mention that Kendrick's influence hasn't really shown up too much either compared to other artists too. I think Kendrick's is due to his style and artistry not being something that's very easy to replicate to an extent
not rap but Bowie did say TPAB influenced Blackstar
Like you said, his music isn't easy to replicate, but he might still influence people's music in less obvious ways
beatles started as like 4 cute guys being one direction and then within the space of a year ended up just becoming a totally different band with insane musical, studio, FX, envelope pushing stuff and then they just were that. someone on twitter the other day said something like it would be as if one direction after their debut few albums, they all of a sudden became radiohead
Yeah he's an inspiration, not usually an influence.
Even though he has a fair share of rappers that are sonically influenced by him. JID, Saba, IDK, Anderson .paak come to mind
I’m glad you made this distinction cuz there’s a difference and the conflation between the two is the source of what starts a lot of arguments on here

without gkmc we wouldnt get the various masterpieces Logic has released thru the years..
Not blindly hating thats been my impression since seeing the Get Back doc
Yea. I can’t say that I’m the biggest fan of theirs but I feel like a lot of the slander is rooted in assuming they were just some milquetoast boomer band.
There’s some interesting s*** about them

their best album is definitely The White Album to me
s*** is so messy and all over the place sonically, love it

now there’s a band
Quadra ain’t even disrespectful like that either
Nah I seen him and a couple of other niggas be on some foul s***.
But yea niggas should deff leave the family out of these roasting sessions
dude seemed like a misery prick
because his blassics weren't even making paul or george look up from their guitars
he'd play the intro to a song that would go onto be a generational song and be like 'what do ya think of that, boys?' and they'd just be like ahh yeah not bad that
Let’s open up the floor and really have this discussion.
Why was it that none of the Big 3 were really influential as far as artistry and sonics go?
I really can’t name many younger rappers tryna sound like Drake, Kendrick, or Cole.
Is it because their styles originate from an older era of rap? Or is it because, as rap has become more entry-level and DIY, the levels of their artistry can’t really be replicated and/or emulated?
Tyler, Wayne, Sosa, Carti, Uzi have all had more influence on the modern sound and style than the big 3 have
without gkmc we wouldnt get the various masterpieces Logic has released thru the years..
true

did new direction play write and play their own music?

yeah off top i hear a little Kendrick in Doja's flows and i know Saba was inspired by him too, but similar to Drake's influence it isn't much either tbf
some say he revived concept albums but idk i was too young to even really know the state of the game when GKMC came out
It’s in my top 3 as well
Was geeked off the addie + Pendrick Lamar on the subway listening to HNVM one time and was convinced it was the most beautiful music i’d ever heard

gotta keep him in his place
for a band that started with Love Me Do, Helter Skelter, I Want You and Guitar Gently Weeps are relatively heavier than a neutron star
Yeah, I Want You could be considered heavy too..I'm still mad at the way it ends tho lmao

Illogical post

yeah if anything Paul seems like the most gaping a****** there. I wanted to hit him a few times,
Illogical post
😎
Without Drake’s influence we don’t get I’m Single by Lil Wayne so hey
@edumist NC is the best mixtpe ever to me
