I love you too brudda
But I kinda agree in that WLR not only influenced sounds but aesthetics
When people refer to the opium aesthetic they’re not just talking the rage beats but the niggas dressing all black and mad belts and zippers like they’re in a Final Fantasy game
i dress like this
the thing people don’t talk about too is how smart it is - all these sounds styles etc existed before but opium brought it together and packaged it in a way that makes it feel so compelling
i’ve started to realize i’m not above callin ppl stupid and assuming their brain ain’t full of rocks anymore, it’s bittersweet
yeah but this is the whole argument right? drake had his time it’s coming and it’s coming to a close
Drake stans can’t accept this. They still think he’s the guy that controls the culture
you f***ed up my bahamas trip..
s*** like this is so stupid
it’s good to make protest music - cops kill you with impunity
The 15 summers rhetoric is getting old
Like other mainstream artists also werent dropping gems from 2009 and Drake was carrying
Dont get me started on putting Kendrick in a ‘protest music’ box
I'll never understand why folks say ignorant s*** like this...
kinda sad really

That’s what happens when pop stan culture invades rap.
There was always other niggas with their finger on the pulse the same time he was there lol
Drake stans can’t accept this. They still think he’s the guy that controls the culture
they’re having an even worse time than ye stan’s in 2018

Yea he lowkey did some s*** niggas should’ve done but he did it at the right time.
Dressing on some weird JRPG s*** while falling over video game beats and dropping the album during a period of time where everyone is on lockdown and inside their house to a generation of kids that grew up on that video game / internet culture. While we’re actively going through a time period of y2k nostalgia?
The s*** lined up perfectly for him lol
is this actually an argument that people can get behind cause i find that profoundly sad
this is his same s*** like his you rap like you’re trying to free the slaves line - like so horrendously stupid to say

he and his team are smart af
like all the opium clothes are combinations of videogame and rave aesthetics - it’s a total killer

From like 2015 and on he was the biggest rapper but nobody ever wanted to rap like him or dress like him, any of that. He made good music and that was enough but there’s a lot of rappers that didn’t reach the commercial heights he did that had way more impact on the genre/culture
That’s a convo that we can’t have on here cuz it’s gonna get ugly fast but yea even at his peaks commercially you could argue that there were other rap acts that were getting their style emulated more
that’s why the chart posters and sales stans be missing the entire point of what it is to be a full on all time great (and im not saying Drake isn’t, but just as a whole snapshot of evaluating artists in music in general)
it isn’t just being popular and how many records you can move, does the nigga make a tangible impact on the culture of the genre? is he making albums that are pushing the genre forward? does he have artistry that inspire people to copy it or emulate it? that’s what actual impact is
not gimmicky Toosie Slides and Slime You Outs

why are you reveling in oeople denying the chance of social change through art?
why is that bad or a bad thing to hope for?

Also his lack of presence on the list of the biggest rap song of each year during his run
