I use Spotify to dabble but my real music library (23 thousand songs) is still on iTunes lol. I have one 256gb iPod for work and one in my car. uploading cds in lossless quality and organizing everything exactly how I like it without needing an internet signal
@op
I'll give you a serious response
I don't think his career is necessarily over (no artist's career is ever really over unless they stop making or performing music IMO), it's just that I don't see him being taken seriously in broader hip-hop culture after this as well as his status within current "youth culture" is in contention which I think is what he prizes the most
I think Gen Z and Alpha largely sees Drake as a joke/meme now, even before the beef kicked off, compared to his original core fanbase of millennials that have been watching him since the 2000s and I think he's past his prime at this point, he's gonna become a legacy act like his peers, even I think Kendrick is gonna start moving away from music towards other ventures after this whole arc ends, much like what he was doing before this all kicked off
Drake and Kendrick's continued relevance is ironically a bad sign that hip-hop has been unable to truly move past the 2010s like previous generations moved on from their forefathers but thats another discussion entirely
I agree with most of what you said
But on that last part, how really concerning is it that Drake and Kendrick still draw the most attention after all these years? Maybe it’s less about how underwhelming the new acts are, and more about how special Drake and Kendrick are. They are both once in a lifetime artist imo

Both things can be true, and given that we already lost a generation of talent that could actually galvanize the youth (pop, xxx, juice) it's putting mainstream hip hop in an interesting position

Now this is stress free living

That's a fascinating way to look at that
I just use Spotify and type in whatever I wanna listen to with my phone

I'm just concerned about ownership across all media. Also, if these DSPs weren't so notoriously s***ty to the artist, then I'd be less skeptical of the model, even though I get why it's more convenient to just hit search on Spotify than manually sorting through ripped audio from CDs

Yeah it's not worth the hassle to me
Downloading and organizing a bunch of music takes forever
I used to download music and organize stuff in music bee
But then I realized I was such a perfectionist about it that I was spending like as much time tagging and organizing music as I was listening to it
So I stopped
I was the same way about comics too lol
I would be like a perfectionist about having and organizing everything together and I would even download a bunch of stuff I didn't even plan on reading because I became a perfectionist about it
It was a massive waste of time and id rather just pay the yearly subscriptions
You will own nothing and you will be happy
tech worship devaluing physical forms of media
Can anyone pin point when Drake began talking adderal and sleeping pills?
Can anyone hear it in the lyrics or the music?
he was a casual drinker/user from the start, but it materialized in the music around view/more life era and became a serious, identifiable concern after CLB imo

The drinking is definitely a lot now, I damn near consider Drake a functioning alcoholic lol. But idk if his pill usage has reached concerning levels yet

a ton of cool s*** isn't on Spotify so Im keeping my method

I don't think there's anything not on Spotify that I would listen to enough to make it worth the hassle
For people who do listen to a lot like that it makes more sense

idk he’s rapidly approaching that 2016 ye vibe for me where im thinking “yeah maybe we should course-correct before this goes off the rails”
i liked FATD but that viagra cocktail line on What Would Pluto Do had me like
Won’t be surprised if Drake next album sells more than Kendrick’s so for his fans that will be a win and redemption for Drake and them. The ones that only care about sales and popularity.
Just won’t change that he lost to a better rapper.
It’s Eminem and it’s not even close
The nigga has three Diamond albums
Yeah.
Eminem is an alien when it comes to rap sales.
Dude legit is one of the best selling artists in any genre when it comes to straight CD sales.
Drake has him beat in the singles and streaming department but technology played a major role in assisting in that. Lose Yourself, for instance, is 13 times Platinum despite not even coming out in the streaming age.
Forget Drake being "cooked."
Based on these Spotify stats, new rap is cooked cause the OG's keep outstream, outselling, and outcharting them while dominating the music/rap conversations.
The same rappers that were hot when I was in high school still running the game rn.😭😭
Until the new guard can usher us out of the 2010's era of rap, it's going to be a while before niggas just stop listening to Drake full stop.
