ngl i dont think earl would be pissed off if someone said he was better than don toliver. it's also pretty funny that u just treat it as objective fact that earl's music is less enjoyable.

hot take, i don't think there's a huge correlation between music taste and the quality of a person. For example, there's plenty of carti fans who are s***ty and plenty of carti fans who are cool ppl. Same could be said for all the artists listed.

im sure there's racist piece of s*** "hip-hop heads" who don't care about black people like that and normal chill "hip-hop heads" who do care about black people like that. just like with any other genre.

Even a lot of white trap fans seem to treat it as some kind of minstrel show. Look at trap lore ross and adam22

Dons music is less focused on the lyrical content and is more casual listener friendly so yes nigga, Don Tolivers music is more enjoyable

i am a bigger fan of Earl but as i said, both of them are opposite poles of rap music and this is not how comparisons or "hot takes" should work bruh

It was f***in insane cuz literally all the artists niggas said dont get play in the club are all niggas I heard get play.

@Antidote seen this video I had of people in the club moshing to "Alright" by Kendrick s*** was hilarious

saying kendrick doesn’t get played in clubs is such an obscene take

I was born in Mexico, came to the U.S. became affiliated with Sureños as that is what I had to do as a Latino in the U.S. and now live in one of the most affluent towns in the U.S. after that teenager life.

When rappers like Jay-Z replaced your real father and showed you the way to success with Hip-Hop I will forever love Black People for creating such culture and the Latino's that had a hand in it. And I will forever protect and spread Hip-Hop culture in a positive light.

The culture of turning nothing into something. That's amazing.

wholesome ass post. Glad Hov and hip hop in general was a positive influence on you

I know the kind of person you're talking about. Not my place to say I know if they care about the whole black community but I definitely don't think they care much about rap just based on how little of it they actually listen to. They only ever talk about the big names and which big name is better than the other, I never see any of them take much of an interest one the genre outside of that

  • May 20, 2023

one time i was on the bus being nosey and i was looking over this white dude shoulder and he had a playlist that was “songs that make me happy” and the first one was a kendrick song

Just watched my first Trap Lore Ross video. This is f***ing obscene lmao how is anyone ok with this

  • May 20, 2023

i feel like its a lot of listeners who treat any rapper across the board like a silly little minstrel show and otherwise see blackness/racism as a punchline

Y'all know what i'm talking about. All the Kanye, Kendrick, BROCKHAMPTON, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator, MF DOOM, Earl Sweatshirt, Death Grips, JPEGMAFIA, fantano watching white niggas.

Yesterday, i seen one of them on twitter saying "Earl Sweatshirt > Don Toliver" and it really got me questioning:

Did this person even realize how much Earl would hate him for comparing two opposite poles of rap music just to d***ride his lyrical focused and less enjoyable music?

Do such white boys even learn anything from the music they listen to? These mfs are always listening to Earl and Kendrick rapping about black issues and sending love to the black community but proceed to treat our music like it's Pokemon cards.

They be thinking they superior for listening to said rappers and experimental s*** and give all kinds of disrespect to trap and the "generic" rap music, not understanding that hip-hop can be diverse and have different target audiences (just like every other genre), like straight up, they treat our music like it's Pokemon cards or sum.

This has to mean something bruh, i feel like these mfs don't care about black people like that and only listen to this music cuz it sounds good to them and to brag about their music taste without these messages doing any impact on the way they should treat our art.

    What do y'all think?

Pls tell me i'm not crazy for saying this, I've had this feeling for too long.

As a white person who loves hip hop I’ll try and give you my own personal story. I don’t know if you even give a f*** but I can see this s***s kinda weighing on you and all we can do is have some kind of a discussion. I can’t speak on other white people or what they think tho

I grew up in a mostly white area. It wasn’t an upper middle class suburb, It was a straight trailer park/white trash kinda area. There was d**** everywhere and I think the poverty rate is close to 30%. I grew up in a broken home and lived with my grandma most of my life. When I first started getting into hip hop I was 12 or 13 years old and I found a lot of the music I was hearing I could relate to on some level (mostly 90s hip hop at the time). D****, Poverty, Broken homes, and Violence (not the level of violence of somewhere like Detroit but still violence) were all major things in my life the same way they were with all these dudes I was hearing rap. It made me respect and have sympathy for a majority of black people in America, They were going through the same s*** as me but in a lot of cases much much worse. And it breaks my heart seeing any child go through that

I will never view black artists that are really from those kind of places as some kind minstrel show I can comfortably watch from my phone because I know what they’re going through. You can find me in multiple threads on here talking about this topic because even tho I can never feel the same way you do, It does really hurt me too

Imo the white kids that watch fantano and stan JPEGMAFIA are far more harmless than the white kids that pretend to be black online. The ones who only listen to trap rappers because that’s what they think being black is. Those are the ones that perpetuate stereotypes and turn the poverty and violence in black areas into some kind of weird entertainment

Once again idk if you even give a f*** about my opinion on it but that’s all I can add to the discussion

But white people dont listen to rap music to "connect" to black people.

White people listen to rap music for same reason why people listen to rock music, or pop music, edm or reggaton music or any genre of music

Because it sounds good and makes em feel good. Same reason why we watch movies or play video games. Im not playing assassins creed to connect with ancient times middle eastern culture.

A person's character is not tied to their musical taste. You are either a good person or you are not.
