It feels like fame is a huge factor here.
Are we talking solo artists or just bands?
I mean, does Kanye have a better run than Pink Floyd for example?
and you could make the case that each album gets more conceptually and compositionally experimental. the same strains of tape loop in psychedelic music are present in the sample crashing of songs like on sight or new slaves

ye is way more integral to the cannon of pop music then roger waters imo
No
yeah he does imo. animals is pretty boring, and i don't like any of umagumma up to dark side, and then the wall on is pretty rough imo as well
Animals is boring? Really?
I’m sorry my man, but that’s borderline slanderous.
And yes, Kanye had a good run with critical and commercial success, but so did Drake. And Eminem probably outsold them both too.
Also I think you give Kanye too much credit for his new ‘sound’, I don’t see a renaissance like Low and Nick Cave etc. have had during their later years.
Yeezus was pretty interesting but other than that it’s largely conventional stuff.
The bands you posted aren’t even the best in their genre
They don’t have to be for my point to stand.
when kanye said WHO THEY WAITIN ON THATS PABLO that hit me more deeply and more true than anything jeff mangum has ever thought

We NEED that song
You were s***ting on Kanye in another thread saying he didn't deserve his fame or money. You got some vendetta against him?

No, I said he’s not entitled to create anything he wants because of his fame.
No, I said he’s not entitled to create anything he wants because of his fame.
What does this even mean? You acting like Kanye is where he is just cause of his fame
oh yah i remember when I found a mucore chart for the first time when I was 13 too
honest question tho, why is it everytime someone mentions swans around here it always in a pretentious, i have better music taste than you way? f***ing hell man and people have the nerve to s*** on radiohead stans for being pretentious

drake's critical consensus was good for three albums and then immediately nosedived with views, thats not a good comparison. Same with eminem. You're a rock guy, cant you appreciate the inclusion of a laurie anderson sample in fsmh pt 2? who the f*** else would do that? what other artist would write 10 songs with paul mccartney put out 4 of them and 2 of them are all day, and piss on your grave lmaoo. who else would premiere there albums in stadium sized events? to compare the audacity and the raw charisma of something like that to something so pedestrian as eminem is very silly.
Better than The Seer, To Be Kind & The Glowing Man?
Better than F# A#, Slow Riot & Lift Your Skinny Fists?
Better than The Party’s Over to Laughing Stock?
Or is it just something rap fans try to tell themselves because people with a higher taste level look down on their genre of choice?
you're not completely misconceived in saying that a lot of rap fans (aka most of this site, really) are insecure about their taste, but to say you have a "higher taste level" is pretentious as s*** - you come off as a fantano stan
Bro posted Swans first, and not even their best run
Back to Reddit
it is their best run, you have no idea what you're talking about

if you want to talk convention than you literally have to rebuke this point because the formal conventions that are tested on mbdtf and then fully realized in yeezus/tlop are nothing if not revelatory to the pop sphere

michael jira fans are the most conceptually uncurious people, it is ridiculous

well because swans isn't very accessible lol, and most of the people you attempt to show them to, they either say it's too monotonous or just dont get "it"
which is fine, but it kind of feeds into the complex by itself by acting like people are weird for liking swans, they have something for everyone

this doesn't even make sense
how are niggas that sit through 15+ minute epics conceptually uncurious, but niggas who stan kanye who makes simpler + more accessible music than that nigga apparently have a higher level of intellect to grasp concepts?
like are you niggas even thinking before you hit the post button?

no to be honest, i don't think too much before i hit post on ktt2. But to answer your question, the position i take on this is that the galaxy brain moment is when you realize that all because a song as experimental elements it does not necessarily make interesting experimental music. yes they have fifteen minute songs but why? improvisation is cool but to my knowledge i havent heard any codified stances on this from them. if there are i'd appreciate you enlightening me. what i think is interesting about an album like yeezus is that it uses experimental elements to make an innately more pop focused record. And due to its popularity people are introduced to new things. how many people were introduced to acid house, or these dark abrasive sounds because kanye put them out? to me that is a million percent more valuable than a song that could probably have been cut for time.
