Rachel did well and Gal brought it down a notch so they kinda evened out. Same with the new songs some were boring and forgettable while "Princess Problems" was nice. Overall pretty mid, better than Mufasa and worse than Beauty and the Beast live action.

Everytime I saw Gal in that androgynous looking dress I felt that they nerfed the true evil queen Regina

I see all that as pieces that didn't help the movie critically and financially. They wanted to play it safe but realized too late that they wanted to do that.

As "controversial" as Rachel's statements outside the movie have been, I can't say I have disagreed with them (honestly don't remember seeing the OG as a kid). I can see and sympathize with being fired up after Trump won again. Do I think she went a little too far putting that statement out as a public figure? Kind of. Strictly speaking on a PR front with that one, not reflecting on my personal views. Jane Fonda is regarded as a legend and said some things in the 70s that was seen as inflammatory as it pertained to the Vietnam War. She was still successful after that.

The Gal Gadot thing, you can tell that they only appeared with each other because it's a job. They haven't really done much PR together outside of the Oscars appearance and pre genocide interviews. Clearly they don't see eye to eye. This was (mostly) shot before the conflict popped off.

I can't speak to what went wrong creatively with this as I haven't seen it for myself yet.
