While this is unbecoming and personally nasty TO ME (cause just from a human POV it is kind of wicked to show me all this love, then years later say I grape'd you and get 10Ms out of me, that's nasty), humans are simply complex creatures.

Steele's doing the best job anyone can do when both hands are tied behind your back and you're tasked with defending evil in human flesh

The problem that the defense will consistently run into is that grape and assault victims are still humans and humans are complex creatures capable of compartmentalizing to extradorinaiy extents. I can still love the person that grape'd me. I can still have empathy for the person who assaulted me.

It happens ALL the time. So unless you can somehow taint her to the point where she isn't believable you're cooked. Pointing out that she still showed / shows love for her abuser is very much typical behavior.

But maybe the jury still has an archaic view of how abuse victims are 'supposed to' respond

    More context and details:

Diddy's former assistant Mia said that she had friends outside of her job — but she didn’t get to see them or speak to them.

“I did not have an external sounding board,” she said.

Defense attorney Brian Steel suggested that she could have reached out to them if she wanted to.

“No, there was absolutely no time, and I had to get permission to leave or do things,” she responded. “I had to beg to go to my grandma’s funeral.”

Mia said she was fearful for her own safety when Diddy was unhappy.

“I was in fear any time Puff was not happy, because I wanted to make sure that he was, because then I was safe,” she testified.
