I'll never leave the West Coast because I'll never watch another NBA game that ends at 1am, let alone an award show

@Valentine they locked the other thread but since you're morally strong I really want an answer to how you feel about this since you think the NBA is hypocritical for playing "black murder music

What does it mean if Kyrie shows Homophobic child abusers who make black murder music love?

I'm genuinely interested in your perspective no funny s***

Ay I’ll humor u a bit gang cuz I think you’re being sincere

I see both sides but ultimately I agree with dude about the NBA being choosy on what they’re willing to endorse or admonish because at the end of the day the “black murder music” suppliers are both the victims and the perpetrators

Most of them root their music in their own personal trauma and unfortunately rely on an industry that not only exploits that trauma but also provides an escape from marginality for its sufferers. If you don’t rap about debauchery your chances of “getting in” are infinitesimally lower which creates an inescapable cycle

The problem lies in billion-dollar corporations like the NBA prioritizing spinning that type of stuff rather than any other type of black art that’s out there and readily available. If we steer attention and funding away from murder music than the artists will have no choice but to follow

    Just my two cents 🤷🏾‍♂️

The NBA spent a long time denying hip Hop and got a lot of criticism arguing they were being racist and unfair for doing so I don't think they were being choosy because rap music is ultimately a global phenomenon and industry and one that the NBA for a long time did try to stay away from until the players like AI, Shaq and Bron worked to bring it in closer.

I just think the comparison is totally off base because that film is a one off documentary with a niche audience.

Again this is also off the point of what me and him were talking about anyway because you aren't addressing Kyrie which is the main topic.

Hip-hop isn’t just murder music tho

When primarily that subgenre is getting majority of the push a negative feedback loop will only encourage others to do the same. The only reason why it’s seemingly slowing down these days is bc it’s not as profitable as it was before and not for any benevolent reason

The NBA can’t act as a moral arbiter if they are gonna be cherry picking self-expression whenever it’s convenient for them. Deadass I think they only condemned Kyrie because he was a low-hanging fruit that was already super harmful to its brand and they couldn’t have him pissing off shareholders with zero repercussions anymore. Niggas omitted him from a mostly objective T-75 list because of that s***

A nigga will beat his innocent gf black and blue and get a contract the next day but the NBA draws the line at Kyrie sharing a movie? Seems like a great message to its consumers
