I mean feelings on Drake and him emoting over that aside, its a logical linear sequence of lines over the type of beats niggas be like “you dont listen to _ for lyrics”

Thats an example of a nigga on a modern new gen beat but still putting effort in his lyrics

But I guess I don’t expect you to have a logical response at this point just more emojis and s*** so whatever man lol

How hard is it for you “defenders of bars” to fathom that lyricism does not always have to be some tryhard wordplay-heavy simile-based barring out on a sample loop?

The fact that you rule out a whole album because each song has some “filler bars” or witty one liners is mad disrespectful to rap as an art and sounds just like the oldheads of the 2000s that kept trying to degrade and minimize a legend like weezy to his p**** bars

Listen to a song like Rewind or Like A Virgin and even if the bars sound casual brag raps the arching theme of the track and the sequence of the album speaks way more…

Who said it had to be all that? I brought up Janice STFU as a counter example and niggas clowning that lol

Even someone like Kanye was simple yet effective on most of his big songs

Wayne kinda did birth the style of endless nonsensical bars about nothing being the mainstream standard tbh. Post No Ceilings especially. But he was way better at it because of how creative he was and he understood the fundamentals of rap. Fakemink whole verses (going off this project) be filler with maybe one cool reference/punchline/1 clear sentiment beyond generic rapper s*** in the whole verse lol

By your own logic this song is a pile of s*** (which it isn’t):

I'm doing my big one, you doing a little one
What kinda man are you? A middle one
Yeah, my brother said he want a blue Bim', I'ma get him one
My new ting don't know how I live, she shoppin' at Erewhon
My brother got no f*** to give, he poppin' at everyone
This ain't fixable smoke when you see us, stop sittin' with Farrakhan,
This s*** like the bag that you bring on the plane, it's gon' carry on
These boys dress up and think that they somebody, s*** is like Comic-Con
My YGs are fastin' and prayin', you lucky it's Ramadan

This was one of the tracks I didnt really like and took off the album because I don’t like trappy Drake like that but even in his version of this style, he still has clusters of lines here that make sense and connect logically that other dude doesn’t have

My brother got no f*** to give, he poppin' at everyone
This ain't fixable smoke when you see us, stop sittin' with Farrakhan,
This s*** like the bag that you bring on the plane, it's gon' carry on

Is a sequence that logically makes sense

How have u not heard ab the project im seeing mad discussion around it lol

guy isnt even signed yet I wouldnt call it any level manufactured artists just fw him and he got a great manager

  • eversince

false. CTI has a fakemink discord and was directing people to comment specific s*** and stuff lol

so they were trying to hop on the algorithm wave.

mobilising his fanbase is manufactured hype now too? Bro don’t even have a machine behind him I think it’s fine here lol I think the fact his manager can even mobilise his fanbase like that is a testament to it not being fake hype

Drake just showed how simple and effective this is with Janice STFU and some of the other Iceman tracks lol you can do the rage beats and still have lyrics that make sense / be relatively lyrical

I think he didn’t make any concessions on the project in terms of making something appealing to people

He totally leaned on his ability to communicate and express his art and his themes

Imo it paid off. Honestly the first rapper of the rage era to actually conceptualize on an album and have it pay off.

The writing is phenomenal, his production is phenomenal, and it’s all very compelling even if it isn’t meant to have a surface level appeal

ken carson last album exists lmao

And sure that’s good and it’s fitting and the project is great but it’s not that complicated

The guy doesn’t have industry level mixing and mastering, and he did all the prod himself, if he has a deal it would’ve been revealed by the time the album dropped. He’s said before too he doesn’t want to sign until he’s making millions
