I think people put way too much weight into a Fantano review. I think Kids See Ghosts is the only example of him having a real effect on public opinion (unless it's a smaller artist he helped put on).

That Chance album was genuinely bad. I was a HUGE fan of him at that time and I never even finished The Big Day. And it takes a lot for me to not finish a project from an artist I love

Ngl Big Day was a very weird album to me cuz I still don't know whether I like it or not I was a huuuuuge chance fan and was hyped for that album due to the teasing he would do and that house snippet had me hooked before knowing that he turned it into a shawn mendes coworker anthem

Then when the album dropped i would keep revisiting it to see if I like some of it, trying to vibe with it so much n I remember I actually loved a few tracks from the 2nd half but then I open ktt and a swarm of hate on that album used to annoy me so much then that fantano review + the i love my wiiife song put the last nail in the coffin and idk if I'll ever find out whether that album was THAT bad like career-ending bad or was it overblown? It felt like a dj khaled album to me

For me he was doing way too much. Like it was already awful how far in he was going with the whole Jesus and I love my life gimmick in general, then incorporating it into the music was just even worse. Mind you I liked Coloring Book and didn’t think he went over the top there. But Big Day was just incredibly cringe for me personally

Fantano hates my favorite band so much he's never even reviewed them (Enter Shikari) I've only ever watched his reviews if it's an artist I love and I'm mass consuming all content surrounding them (like Let God Sort Em Out)

I thought Fantano just had a monopoly at this point with the occasional DEHH videos but again I’m old and don’t keep up with anything anymore. I know there was this one black guy on ktt 1 everyone used to hype who did reviews but I can’t remember his name

the big day was AI music before AI... there's such a corporate vibe to it

every single moment on that album feels like the result of a meeting between five label execs who've maybe heard ten rap albums in their lives

it felt like he was glad all these things were happening in his life so he had a
topic to rap about n put in his music

but unlike coloring book, when it came to actually hopping into the studio n rapping about all that marriage stuff he found nothing solid to say so it just came out redundant af and left some voids that he filled with terrible wordplay and random features

What weirded me out more is that unlike most artists that make a bad album, he never seemed to defend this album, it's like he just let it get to him
