It's because Jay Z is one of the bigger and more powerful people in the industry. He is seen as someone with high influence, and as a "leader". Especially within the black community. He's on more people's radar when it comes to wanting notable ppl to bring awareness to real life issues.

Basically the phrase "The bigger you are, the harder you fall" applies perfectly here

Okay, so which black-owned nationwide vinyl retailer would you rather him have worked with?

  • What is target being boycotted for?

You have no proof of this

Y’all are ignoring that like 99% of mainstream artists that do vinyl releases do Target-exclusive releases because they’re one of the very few major retailers that still sell vinyl

  • insertcoolnamehere

You have no proof of this

You have no proof of the contrary

There are no black-owned nationwide vinyl retailers.

If you wanna criticize him for working with a white-owned corporation that’s one thing, but criticizing him for working with Target specifically because of the boycott when he’s not even the only rapper to work with them in the past few months is ridiculous

    Lie again.

Literally watched game 3 of the finals at one in Bedstuy

It’s mad black owned vinyl stores in Brooklyn.

  • shaleirose

Fair, but we well removed from that time

    I guess so

But just going off of what they reported for the year, the boycotts had to have lasted longer than just two-three months.

With that being said, I'm sure it was MAGAtards boycotting them that really did the damage. Plenty of companies and brands have survived Black people boycotting them. But mix that in with angry white Americans boycotting, that's when the heavy damage to their bottomline started to show.

Regardless, Jay Z partnering with Target for vinyl exclusives is probably his way of making the albums more available and potentially affordable to everybody. A lot of huge acts do this these days because there have been many delays with vinyls when artists go other routes for production and distribution.

  • There are many things you can and should tear Jay Z apart for in regards to his capitalist dealings that are significantly more predatory and harmful to the working class.

This one however is just...so minute in the grand scheme of things, and is something that most artists do when they have the means. I guess I prefer this than some artists making extremely limited pressings and then try to charge $200-500 (sometimes thousands) for their records and pull the "I'm independent and these are art pieces!" gimmick.

Literally, anyone complaining about this just has zero idea of how the vinyl game works right now

Jay can be criticized for hundreds of things, this is not one of them whatsoever
