Nah he wasn't riding a wave. Desiigner wasn't just talented enough to keep his light and the Future comparison didn't do him good at all. People in his neighborhood(Brooklyn - Lexington and Tompkins) already knew he sounded like Future before he blew up. Some musicians sound similar to other musicians and some are just unique has they develop musically.

Future was always a lot more polished, they chose to stall Desiigner out instead of fleshing out his signature flow from Panda with more music.
