I’ve never seen a 70MM movie before, but I’m used to Dolby and I love it so much. I just wanna know if there’s a significant difference

I could not and would not want to imagine not seeing this in IMAX if ever there was a movie where IMAX is mandatory it’s this one

Yes there is. There’s only 9 theaters in the country that have it in 70mm for a reason.

I really don’t see how people think this is the greatest s*** ever. Definitely ain’t on that Star Wars / Lord of the Rings tier. The characters were a lil better than part 1, but still a bit hollow. It’s cool sci-fi tho. Riding the worm was fun. Javier Bardem MVP.

I give this 4 stars, and I give the first part 4 stars as well.

I have an IMAX 70MM for Dune 2 tomorrow evening, but I live near a Dolby Cinema and I’m thinking about seeing it tonight. I don’t have the funds to do back to back showings. What should I pick ?

The closest real imax I live by is 3 hours away it was worth the mini road-trip

It’s a pretty flawless adaptation of what’s considered the greatest and most influential piece of science fiction of all time. It’s not rocket science why people are adoring it when you consider that, and the sheer scale and spectacle the film has.

I just don’t get why you need to hear how it improves from Dune 1 if you’re going to watch it this weekend anyways. Just go watch the movie fam and decide for yourself and then come share your opinion on it wether it be good or bad.

lol my weekends are valuable time if it’s samey I will wait and lower my expectations rather than use 3 of my 48 hours to be disappointed

The being negative about everything that is hyped before you see it s*** you always do needs to end

Me asking for a greater summation than 10/10, goat , best movie ever

Really isn’t that much to ask . When I was happily hyped about something on here and it doesn’t live up to someone else’s expectations I’ve gotten spammed with “ L “

The reason the praise is so high for Part 2 is cause the first movie literally ends at the exact moment that the book starts ramping up after dumping tons of exposition on you. But Villeneuve executed the visuals and setup for the first film. So due to the fact there isn't much going on in Part 1 besides Atreides fall Part 2 had tons of action, conflict and moments (from the book) for em to cook with.

This is all I wanted to know thanks for answering a basic question

    stop, this deserves the hype

1 was a 3/5 for me or 3.5/5. It was coo. Had some of my favorite shots in it tho.

    And this 5/5?

For me, as someone who didn’t read the books, a big part of why I wasn’t crazy over the first movie was, to put it simply, I didn’t give a f***. Part One didn’t do a great job of getting the audience invested in and attached to the characters and the story it was trying to tell. It felt moreso like a sequence of events in front of a pretty backdrop more than it felt like a captivating story being told.

So I walked away from the first movie impressed by the scale, cinematography, and mildly intrigued by the world building, but totally unsatisfied on a character and story level. Not to mention the ending which was completely abrupt and anti-climactic.

Yes it’s a Part One, I know, but every film should be its own complete vision start to finish. If superhero movies can get criticized for too much setup sometimes, there’s no reason Dune shouldn’t be able to as well. Also, Part Two wasn’t even confirmed at the time of the first film’s release, so just imagine if we had never even received the sequel.

Part Two, on the other hand, was a totally different experience for me. The directing and cinematography was still incredible, yes, but what stood out to me this time was the characters and the emotional depth. As someone who didn’t really think much about the Dune universe 48 hours ago, I now can’t get it out of my head after seeing Part Two yesterday.

It draws you into this world, makes you care about every character’s motivations, has you thinking about the different ideologies and beliefs of each group in the universe, and it feels like there are real stakes at hand this time around. It also makes you question some things about the real world that are becoming more and more real every day. If you read the book you’ll know what I’m talking about, if not you will see.

This is one of the greatest science fiction films ever made, and it really feels like a masterclass on every level imaginable. Directing, writing, acting, editing, scoring, mixing, pacing… it’s all phenomenal.

If Part One had flashes of brilliance, then Part Two is the complete aurora borealis

Finally the real typers arrived thank God thank you appreciate you

i remember @ShintaroKago not liking the white savior trope in part 1 while people were literally telling him every other page of the Dune 1 thread it’s going to be unraveled soon in sequels

I agreed with you because I know the plot of messiah doesn’t change the trope is boring to me even if hero eventually turns evil which is also a trope…

Wait what? I thought he just barely watched Dune 1 now…

This is my third watch of dune 1 . They acted like I didn’t watch it so they could invalidate how I felt as they always do . Even though I directly mentioned dialogue , connection with characters , emotional depth and the amount of cut scenes being my issue

They never admit to being wrong

    Its okay.

Visuals and sound are great, but the script and pacing of the movie is, to my liking, absolutely NOT up to par.

I love Villeneuve as a filmmaker and almost all of his movies are great to me. His recents comments about dialogue however makes all the more sense with this movie. And it is probably the biggest reason why I dont like this movie.

The movie peaks at the end. But the rest of it feels like a drag.

how did the dialogue deliver even if you do personally find it weak? You think weaker than the first movie? Weak as in not convincing or just didn't connect with you. What scifi do you like?
