Didn’t realize Villeneuve has basically become the go-to sci-fi filmmaker
Give this man the Death Stranding movie

That would be great , but he has like 4 other movies on his slate right now so I don’t see that happening unfortunately

I can genuinely say no modern film maker has impressed me more since Denis’ run starting with Blade Runner 2049 outside of Jodorowsky and Kubrick
(HM for Lucas because I genuinely loved THX 1138 & can appreciate Star Wars on a deeper level because of it)
Only other directors I put up there are Kurosawa & Kobayashi but it’s hard to compare because I don’t consider them modern

Oh my..
Just find out that a project he’s currently on (Rendezvous with Rama) is sci-fi as well..
Yeah someone else should tackle DS lest the sci-fi genre be saturated with Villeneuve’s name lol
Holy Mountain & 2001 a space odyssey & Star Wars OG trilogy
Those are the only films I can compare to Denis’ Dune Trilogy
Maybe the Human Condition trilogy because that was lowkey epic as well in a different way
But after that the list is unequivocally over

Nolan deserves a mention
He’s been consistent at pushing out original blockbusters that can feel like they’re a part of pop culture.
His filmography only has like a couple of blemishes.

I like Nolan & I think he’s a great film maker but while his movies are impressive while you’re watching them they don’t have that same levity as those films I mentioned, like I remember the feeling I had watching interstellar the first time and inception but I don’t necessarily have a strong impression on the plot points in those films or the characters or even specific shots or sounds that embedded themselves into my psyche permanently and vividly the way those other film makers did, maybe it’s my bias but I do see a through line in the style in which those film makers tell stories.
Don’t get me wrong there’s other films and Directors that can approximate that impression for me but if I had to make a tier list and separate out the very SSS directors those guys would be at least 2-3 tiers above Nolan for me
I rewatched the first one again and when it ended I wanted to drive right over to the theatre
I will go one more time before it leaves theatres
every single person on that entire set was cooking
couldn't even snap a pic without it being hard as f***

It’s good but Chani wasn’t a hater in the book. Why would they do this
my theory is that she actually believes(by the end of the movie, at least that’s how i read her performance) but they wanted to show more emphasis on their relationship this way.
remember in the first one the vision Paul has with them two in the holy war.
Messiah is probably gonna bring that element among other stuff

he snapped
I can only dream to learn how to take photos that look as half as good as these do
