what exactly are they talking about

Yes but how does this relate to film

It seems like a word thrown around that doesn't carry weight.

They're just saying the world is huge. For example,
Lord of the rings = big scope
Phone booth = small scope

What sucks is that it gets released in f***ing 3D. Imax cinemas here always show films with 3D release in 3D. I f***ing hate it (except when Director intended 3D). Hopefully there'll be a few exceptions..
