I can understand where you're coming from, but it also doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you heard he was directing an original spy film would you be more excited? Because, to me, there doesn't seem to be much difference between that and Bond.

Would original sci-fi films have been inherently better than BR2049 and Dune? It's hard to imagine they would have been. At least attaching himself to Bond he guarantees himself the backing and budget to do whatever he wants.
