What about my points about the other candidates? Why would they risk their political capitol now? They are both unknown because they haven't gone through the primary stage. Even if someone was selected tomorrow they would have like 4 months to get people to vote for them.
While they have less time to make their cases that is also less time to fumble or get attacked. And getting to skip the primary process and immediately be fully backed by the party in a run against a historically unpopular ex president?
That would be a huge opportunity for one of these guys. You have 5-6 rising stars in the party looking for a nomination in next 8-12 years. Getting to jump the line and avoid losing in the primaries or having to deal with tons of opposition before the election is gonna be appealing to at least one of them.
