I guess in gunns case it would be more of an appropriation than a rip. My point still stands that if your gonna take an entire story and use it then the writer should get half of that acclaim

He posted multiple times that he was taking a lot of inspiration for his superman film from all star superman. You can tell he tried to copy it with the pacing and ripped the fortress of solitude bits from it. Also the stuff with supermans parents is taken from birthright
Same for his suicide squad and guardians films but i dont read those brands. Point is he is selling his dcu on pulling heavily from actual dc comics

Grant Morrison said in his review of the film that he heard Gunn took inspiration from his comic but he didn’t see the similarities at all. The only similarity I see is the overall tone and look of the world and also the fortress robots.

Suicide Squad and Guardians have also been criticized for how different the characters are to the source material.

You said “copy and paste” entire comics without giving the comic author credit. When ANYONE hears the words “copy and paste” they don’t think drawing inspiration from them. They think blatant stealing stories without giving the comic author credit.

NEWSFLASH… every single comic book movie in existence has drawn inspiration from the source material. But that wasn’t your original argument.

The funny thing reading this back and forth is that I was set up for a tiny bit of disappointment when Gunn said he was inspired by All Star Superman, cause I wish the movie committed more to being in the spirit of All Star Superman, I felt like there wasn’t ENOUGH All Star Superman

Obviously he didnt rip the story but I think the breakneck pacing of his superman film was definitely him trying to replicate morrison’s writing
