Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Lynch had this in his will, his daughter has been active on Reddit and she said everything the family is doing is as Lynch intended - but I agree with your sentiment.

Dad was prolific. Filled with the joy of doing and creating. All aspects of his work featured there. Auction is equally special but vastly different.
