Making âStardustâ also helped Brown approach hyperpop in ways his mentality wouldnât allow before. Though his earliest dabble with the genre was with Dorian Electra in 2021, Brown reminisces about discovering pioneer SOPHIEâs 2014 single âBippâ, which he believed was âwhere grime was gonna go nextâ. He would have collaborated with her, too, if it werenât for one Vince Staples.
âVince Staples started working with SOPHIE, and I remember being like, f*** â he did it, now I canât do it,â he laments. âThatâs one of the things I feel really bad about; I wish I had the chance to work with SOPHIE. I had a moniker with this album: âMake SOPHIE proudâ, I wrote that in all my notebooks.â
Though Brown would work with Dylan Brady of 100 gecs and PC Music founder A.G. Cook for the record, he felt none of the music fit (âThe song is going to get used somewhere else,â he promises us). Instead, Brown was more attracted to the newer wave of digicore, and it was Jesse Taconelli â co-founder of deadAir Records and Quadecaâs manager â whoâd introduce Brown to many of his future features.
Not only did Taconelli serve as Brownâs âpersonal A&Râ, he was also responsible for a key element in Brownâs creative process for âStardustâ. As he searched for a way to ânot just trauma dumpâ, Taconelli suggested he create a character. Brown eventually called it âDusty Starâ, likening it to Princeâs semi-autobiographical approach on âPurple Rainâ.
âHe goes into rehab, heâs done with music. If you listen to âQuarantaâ, thatâs like the prequel,â Brown explains. âI had to go into a different mode and write from a different perspective, especially with the soundscape, so I created this â90s-era popstarâ.

Wow this sounds so f***ing good lol sounds like the most Danny brown s*** ever
What they said about gabbed and industrial on here has me even more excited lol esp that he made songs with ppl like AG cook and was like this donât fit im so excited
The problem with his past 2-3 imo is him just not being fully dedicated to the sound and vision this seems completely balls to the wall into it, like it was restrained from going where it couldâve and it had a certain crowd too much in mind.
Apparently thereâs a line on the opening track where he calls he Earl and Kendrick the âbig 3â

More respectable at the very least.
Some tidbits from interviews/articles Iâve seen:
-Book of Daniel is like the flipside to 30
-Baby w/ underscores interpolates Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U, and is the closest to a straight up love track heâs made
-Influences of grime, techno, house, dnb, dubstep, & folktronica (yes fr) as well as hyperpop
-The spoken word bits from Angel are supposed to be âfan lettersâ explaining how Danny (or his alter ego heâs taking on) can fall back in love with music
-Generally seeing Whatever The Case, The End, and 1999 being labeled as standout tracks

If true, Danny is such a real one for saying that
The End ft. Zheani leaked a few months ago and that song was fire af but it had an annoying spoken word outro on it. I hope Danny reworked the song or completely removed it from the album

Only the second half leaked (and unfinished), we havenât heard the first part with Ta Ukrainka at all

BRO WHAAA
Anyone taken notice that itâs 14 tracks, and that if you split that in half, itâs bookmarked by the two Quadeca tracks?
Thatâs gotta be intentional I feel
