If he was battling cancer for a while I would think he discussed this stuff with somebody, I can’t imagine Questlove getting this wrong it does seem soon to be talking about it though.

i'll take an EP of complete songs over an unfinished album just cuz d'angelo was so meticulous about his craft, but we'll see.

still skeptical about Quest wanting to hop on so quickly especially when you consider he leaked Really Love back in 07...they might have patched things up but he's definitely an opportunist

Questlove has pretty much been his main collaborator since the beginning. I get what you're saying, but I kinda find it hard to be upset about it. It might be a D'Angelo album, but Quest probably had such a big hand in making it that it'd feel weird to say he can't release something he made.

you're right I can't lie he's been there since the jump. I respect Quest as a legend and fw what he's been doing lately outside of performing music, but i just hope it's a Mac Miller situation where the foundation for the album is there and it's just a matter of putting the pieces together. I hope when the time comes and the album is ready to go it'll be great, but idk i'm still on the fence because we really don't know how much was recorded or complete for that matter (unless i'm missing something).

All in all though if D'Angelo knew wtf was up and gave Quest his blessing to finish what he started, I can't be mad. There really is no other person who would do it justice other than Quest

Obviously couldn't speak to this particular situation, but unfortunately a lot of talks are avoided even when people know their time is winding down.

They've had minor and major fallings out over the years but always patched things up & it seems they were on good terms in recent years

It's hard to a***yse it from the outside looking in, although Quest has spoken about some of their grievances also

I just hope whatever music he was working on he intended to be released at some point and/or he gave his blessing to be released in the event of his passing. Really really hope this isn’t a situation where the estate is just releasing something to release it

I'm leaning more on quest's side mostly because I think he comes at it from the angle of "this is generational music people need to hear instead of being tinkered with endlessly" rather than some opportunist move. I'm curious what raphael saddiq has to say since the article says he was the main collaborator, and it seems like quest & d were a bit estranged in the last few years even though he was still involved in some capacity

I think people who think this is a repeat of the Really Love situation are misguided. They been peaced it up & this won't be like that

Its gonna crush me to listen to it but I do not doubt that some of his best songs ever will be on this. Probably will be the best posthumous album ever

i have a strong feeling d would have finished whatever he would want to be released, it’ll be on his own terms musically and in how it’s released.

quest spent a lot of time with him in his last days. wouldn’t be shocked if d entrusted him with bringing this to the world, and i feel like his will/estate wouldn’t let anyone ever tease something like this unless he confirmed it was his wishes.
