reinstalled to check out gyro with the steam controller only to realize i was like 5 hours away from finishing the game when i dropped it around this time last year just finished it, here's my review from backloggd

A fantastic and gripping story backed up by incredible performances but unfortunately the surrounding parts are all really weak. Combat is so easy and enemies provide such little challenge that it feels almost pointless in its entirety. About half way through the game I switched to using a throwing knife for like 99% of combat scenarios and it was still unbelievably easy. Night City is beautiful but it's nothing more than a movie set. The city is completely dead and there's no reason to explore and try to discover the city, there's just nothing there. Driving is also really, really bad. Hacking is intially interesting but it quickly reveals itself to be shallow and you'll likely end up just using the same 2-4 hacks for the entirety of the game cause despite the variety of hacks most are pretty much the same in use. The overall presentation, characters and writing are undeniably great but everything else is so underbaked that it took way too much away from the experience for me.

Hmm, "finished" the game after 80 hours....still had a bunch of side quests/with phantom liberty barely scratched the surface

F*** it, had V take the easy way out. Idk, this game brings out a certain nihilism to where it's cathartic....until them end credits.

Idk, it dawned on me that I hated Johnny the entire game for being a self righteous prick, only for it to dawn on me is that I'm ripping mfs to shreds with my mantis blades for nothing outside of boredom, money and glory. V is a piece of s*** too.

I know I have a reductive take, I actually did the panam side quest, but man ....
